Booties for dogs: Protect and bandage paws
By Ericka Basile

I hereby swear if I get another dog I will touch and hold their paws more regularly because my dogs do NOT like their paws touched.
Testing this product on my dog Gigi’s paws was interesting. She did not hold still and ran away a few times with the bootie half on. Because her paws are not injured she ran fast. Very fast. I almost had a boycott, with Gigi staring at me as if to say, “No more product testing, Mom!” And then the ever nagging doggie whine of, “Darn I wish Pet Connection let us test treats! Why all the non-edible product reviews! Wahh!”
Geez, childrendogs!
I imagine, though, that a dog whose paw is injured will also be sensitive to handling of his foot. So my unwilling dog was kind of what I would expect if her paw really was hurt. She would say, “Just leave me alone!”
Once I finally held Gigi down and put on the bootie it stayed put. Of course she walked around as if I had not only injured her, but also was set on humiliating her in front of her sister.
I told her these booties have a purpose. Mom knows best: If you are hurt you need a bandage and medicine.
That is the reason these medical booties were invented. To help the dog and the owner treat a injured paw.
Healers Veterinary Dressings (size medium are about $22 a pair) were easy to put on, I must say, once I had Gigi hold still. The booties open flat and the stretchy breathable material is a breeze to manipulate into place. The wrap-around closure adheres to itself with Velcro so I could keep the bandage as loose or tight as I wanted.
Included in the package was triple layer gauze inserts (package of eight is $3.75) which act as a bandage to absorb moisture and give me a place to put medicine for the injury. Adhesive backing on the gauze keeps it in place. I think I would buy my own gauze for dressing changes, though.
The bottom of the bootie has no-skid padding. The bootie itself is made from Breath-o-Prene air cell dynamics which wicks away moisture.
This product is smart, sanitary and easy to use. The booties come in all sizes from toy with paw width of about 2″ to big dogs with paws up to about 4″ width. You can find these medical booties on the manufacturers website here.

Those look great.
I would have loved those instead of trying to keep old socks on Fred’s paw. That was an interesting week!

Writing with an unqualified endorsement of these booties. Have been struggling for over a month to come up with something to help us deal with our dog’s injured paw. Pads were torn off, nails worn down to bleeding, bandaging would keep too moist, socks would pull off the delicate healing skin — finally relief for our sweet girl. Very easy to put on, no pulling on and off required, stays dry and she seems not even aware there is anything on her foot. A wonderful product at last!

When my dog cut her paw at the park I was glad to find a product that would allow her paw to heal quickly and keep her from licking or biting at it. In addition, the product shipped very quickly from the manufacturers website!
