Radio Systems has recalled a heating unit for fire concerns:

Radio Systems Corporation of Knoxville, TN, is initiating a voluntary recall of approximately 20,000 power adaptors. The power adaptors are used with the PetSafe® Heated Wellness Sleeper models PCU00-10911 (small), PCU00-10912 (medium) and PCU-10913 (large), sold at pet specialty stores, catalog and online retailers from late 2006 through early 2010.

Radio Systems Corporation has received 3 reports of melted power adaptor connectors. The power adapter presents a risk of fire.

Consumers should stop using these products immediately and call Radio Systems Corporation’s Customer Care at 1-800-732-2677 for instructions on how to receive a free replacement power adaptor with the return of the old power adaptor.

The company put out a release in a timely fashion, so kudos for that.  The recall notice is on the company’s home page, very good, but at the very bottom where you have to scroll up to find it, not so good. The company should also have put the notice on its Facebook page, but hasn’t yet. I trust they will — social media just isn’t well integrated into many companies’ communications networks yet.

In any case, if you have this product, chances are you’re not using it in July. But go dig it out now and get it sent back before you forget about it. We all know how easy that is, and by the time winter comes around you’ll be glad you got the matter taken care of in a timely fashion.
