We’re giving everyone here a couple days off from the blog. While I hope every one of you has a wonderful weekend, I also hope you take some time to honor those for whom Monday’s holiday was set aside. They gave their lives for us,  we must honor their sacrifice.

We will be back on Tuesday.

  1. Please remember not only the humans, but all the dogs, horses and other animals who have given their lives in military service, and have all too often been abandoned once their usefulness was over.

  2. You may rest assured, Maria, that on THIS blog, the honoring of those who have sacrificed for us is not limited to our two-legged service members. :)

  3. While I know that Memorial Day is set aside to remember and honor people who have died serving our country, I actually only learned this as an adult. In my family, Memorial Day was (and still is) a day where we remember and honor EVERYONE who has gone on before us. We visit our cemeteries, put out flowers, and tell stories about our loved ones. It’s a wonderful experience, and although I don’t make the trip every year anymore, I am always glad when I do.

  4. Sherron, I’ve learned that’s true for a great many people, and I think is a touching tradition.

  5. Also please remember those who served and came back forever changed. Just because they did not give the ultimate sacrifice does not mean they did not sacrifice.

  6. And please consider volunteering at a local veterans’ service provider, such as at a local Veterans Administration hospital! It’s rewarding work that can help so much.
