Heart U Back: Distinctive bling with a pet-lover’s twist
By Ericka Basile

I’m a big fan of promoting my love of animals. My car has decals galore, the memo board in my office has stickers and funny cartoons pinned to it, and I wear pet jewelry.
Yep, I’m the gal with the chihuahua earrings or brooch on my shirt at pet events that reads “I love my dog” in rhinestone crystals. I try to stay away from the snooty Diva look, and lately have been buying chunky silver-plated accessories.
Heart U Back contacted me to ask if I wanted to check out their accessory line. Yes! And who doesn’t love a dog with pink lipstick as seen in their promo photo at right?
Before I opened their media kit, I was truthfully thinking to myself, “I’ve probably seen or own the same stuff. I mean, how many “I Love My Cat” pins can a person own?”
Wow. Heart U Back has taken a twist on your everyday pet jewelry and tags. Once I went to their website and browsed around I was hooked.
The unique finds were their Friendship Bracelets and the Grant a Wish Collection. Heart U Back scored high with these product lines.
The Friendship Bracelets, $29.99 (shown in photo at right), are my favorite. The colors are fun and bright, and the little tiny bones wrapped in colorful cord…well, I love it! The attention to detail is what makes me rate these bracelets as A+. The tiny end bead shaped like paws are unique, and the knotting is clever. I knit and crochet and am always impressed when people use fibers well.
The Grant a Wish bracelet was a nice surprise. I always wanted a black bracelet like rockers and cool people wear. But, well, truth is I am not a rocker (shock!) so it never seemed quite right. I am a dog lover, though, and wearing the black fiber art bracelet with the silver bone (seen in photo at below) gives me that ‘I’m hip’ feeling.
From each piece of the Heart U Back collection, the company has promised to contribute to a minimum donation of $125,000 to the ASPCA. They do have quite a few nice pieces of pet companion products (tags your dog wears which have a coordinating pendant the dog owner wears) with a subtle ASPCA logo on the back of the piece.
Heart U Back sell “regular stuff” such as “Dog Lover” pendants ($35.99), which are a great staple for a pet lover’s jewelry collection. Just think twice about the dog-shaped cuff links. While I love wearing pet jewelry, my husband has asked me ever so nicely not to get him any more cuff links shaped like animals. But, if the man (Father’s Day is coming up) in your life wants a set, go for it! Note, Heart U Back’s cuff links are $250 (real diamonds are the eyes) so you might want to ask that guy if he likes dog cuff links first.
Go ahead and check out the products (and bold colors!) You can find them online here or at select pet boutiques nationwide.

Cute, but a bit pricey, it seems to me. Even for part of the money going to a charity. I really like the Friendship bracelet though.
