You'll have fun, Barbara. It's hard work, but I sure drove home feeling good for doing it!
Without our support, ranchers and farmers who practice humane, sustainable agriculture won't make it. Co-ops, CSAs, farmer's markets -- it's all part of the big picture, and we need to support them all.

As we just joined SF Raw, and have our volunteer day coming up in March, I want to thank you Gina, for the great write-up. We are warned to make sure we bring our Dillon Beach wear for the freezer. We are looking forward to our evening of work, getting to meet Kasie and other co-op members, and participating in such a wonderful organization. Thanks again for the good blog.

AWESOME write up Gina!!! Kasie is truly amazing. I really enjoy volunteering at the site myself. It is truly because of her that I choose to stay in this particular co-op despite living in Pleasanton. The entire SFRAW community (that she put together and manages impeccably) is so helpful and gracious and are all working together for the good of our animal companions. What a wonderful way to honor Kasie and her team for the hard work, dedication and genuine kind spirit. I'm pretty sure you'll find some angel wings beneath her jacket! : )

When I began to accept that I was indeed a not simply a person who was obscessed with spay/neuter and occasional rescue, and realized that I am going to continue to offer not only spay/neuter but lifetime rescue to animals in need, I needed to find a way to support these critters in my care. As a long time vegan simply bringing meat into the household was difficult but as a commited ethical vegan, the meat I fed could not come from factory farmed animals that are forced to suffer from the moment of conception but are also contributing, through no fault of their own, to the grim status of our environment, I found Sharon Goldstein of the Fremont Co-op. Then with luck beyond imagination, Kasie starte the SF Raw Co-op. Nothing better on the planet, for the planet, for us and our precious animal companions from that new born litter to the elder 20+ y/o's on hospice..I cannot say enough about Kasie and our wonderful Co-op. Thank you for noticing and sharing, Gina. BTW< Just had to mention,,that disinfectant you used most certainly took care of any germ that might be lurking AND was environmentally friendly!

I love the new facility but after spending some time in the freezer you need to come prepared with hat, gloves and a warm coat. This new arrangement that allows for delivery to Mendocino which is fabulous for us north coast co=opers. I'm hoping that more of the coastal folks will sign up for the coop as you can't beat the quality, variety and the prices. A real plus of this co-op is the effort that Kasie put in to insure that the meat comes from sustainable, humane farmers. You can also get human grade meat, I got a wonderful lamb from Tyler - Barbarosa Ranchers who I never would have heard of if not for SF-Raw Coop. My Whippets and Rhodesian Ridgebacks give 4 paws up for Kasie and SF-Raw.

Kasie has really done amazing work with the co-op. This will be my third year, and I couldn't be happier. Even though I'll be moving to Grass Valley in April, I still plan on schlepping all the dogs' goods at the pick up site in Sebastopol.

Thanks for blogging about her, the group and your volunteer experience.

(It's been interesting for me to meet so many fellow vegans and vegetarians at the co-op...makes me feel a little less crazy for being a vegan who feeds her dogs a raw meat diet).

Wow, SF Raw has certainly changed a lot in the past few years! I ordered from it every couple of months back in 2006, when I lived in SF. Back then, we just went to a house in the Marina and picked up our orders there. I did do a volunteer shift back then as well (the volunteer requirement was one day a year, but there were no membership fees back then), and it was fun. Now, though, I live in the East Bay and order from the Fremont co-op. It's pretty awesome to see how SF Raw has changed. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for writing! I concur. Kasie is nothing less than a miracle to those of us who care about sustainable living and humane meat products for our animals and ourselves. My kitties and I have been reaping the benefits of SFRAW for 6 years now and it never ceases to amaze me how wonderful this organization is!

Holy Mackerel -- not only are you a wonderful writer and managed to explain the day/shift better than I could have myself, but such flattery! Gosh, I'm actually still blushing. Thank you, Gina! My goodness, how kind of you to write all of this. I'm happy to hear that participating with SFRAW will help you to complete your NY resolutions to boot -- yay.
