As a resident of Colorado, I feel I need to adjust the thinking on that -- for the most part, unless you're up in the mountains, we get very very little snow. The current 6 or so inches in my area is more than I've seen on the ground here in 5-6 years, and I'm betting it'll be melted by next week heh.

Now, when I lived in Wisconsin... we measured snow by the foot lol

Ginger sounds like Bella except for the no-longer-bionic bladder. I'm pretty sure Bella wouldn't mind snow, though. When it was pouring down rain two days ago, she and Twyla were happy to walk around in it and splash through puddles and leave me to stand there shivering. Harper was wise enough to go out once and then stay in the rest of the day until it stopped.

A story from a San Diegan: One year the local mountain. Mt Palomar, had a good snowfall. I waited a couple days until the roads were clear and then drove the dogs up to the top of the mountain so we could play in the snow. It's just about a two hour drive so not far.

When we got there, I put on my layers of clothes - no snow gear here! - and then let the dogs out of the back of the van. Neither had seen snow before.

Riker jumped out, landed on all four feet and then immediately picked up all four feet at the same time! Landing of course on his belly!

My guess is his thought was, "What the **** is on the ground?"

Within minutes, though, both dogs were running and playing, sticking their noses into the snow, and chasing snowballs.

Of course, after a couple of hours, we drove down the mountain, back into warm weather and we all sat outside in the sun to warm back up.

Snow is fun to play in but we don't like to live in it!

Thank you for this post on winter weather and snow. All week I have been concerned about my dogs as the temps have dipped into the lower twenties. I decided to bring my thick coated dog inside at night to sleep on soft bath rugs - I could not bear to leave him out in the cold - not even during the day while I work.
