But isn't having a real working dog such a joy? At least I know and love seeing the dogs work - and how the working ability affects their temperament when compared to dogs from lines that haven't considered working ability.

And Woody is a handsome dog.

Man, if Standard Poodles weren't my heart breed, with the way you right about Woody, I'd consider a flat coat as my next service dog.

The dog that played Fluke was a light gold golden retriever named Comet. He was clipped and dyed for the film.

The absolute darkest goldens come in that coloration, and the field line dogs tend to have less hair. Many look like flat-coats.

Flat-coats can (accepted as per the standard) come in liver. (They can also come in yellow/gold, but it's not permissible. The yellow/gold ones look like field-line golden retrievers.)

It's is impossible, though, to have a liver flat-coat with a black nose.

Gina,

I'm glad you liked that post.

Speaking of movie stars, Woody also looks a little bit like the dog from the movie Fluke.

What a ruggedly handsome flat-coat!

I imagine him looking something like Robert Redford if he were human.

"...to help fill the hole in my heart where the boy retrievers fit."

I have that place in my heart too. We're an even rarer breed than Flat-Coats, I think. :-)
