Getting fit together, with help from new friends
By Pet Connection Staff
August 24, 2009
Our Dr. Marty Becker has just signed on as the veterinary expert for the new national TV show from Dr. Mehmet Oz. Between this new job and his regular appearances on “Good Morning America” Dr. Becker will be in New York City so often he ought to get an apartment there!
The first segment Dr. Becker will be involved in will be about helping people and pets lose weight and gain fitness together. He and Dr. Oz will be working with an overweight person with an overweight dog to get them both back on track.
The show’s producers are looking for the owner-pet team to be the focus of the doctors’ help. They’re hoping to find a pair in the New York City area, but they’re willing to reach out further for the right team to help.
If you’re interested, drop us a note at petconnection@gmail.com and we’ll pass on your particulars to the producers.

What an interesting idea!
Within a month of adopting my dog (then a 7-month-old pup) I lost about 5 lbs. Having to run up an down a flight of stairs every half an hour while housetraining a puppy will do a lot for your weight and your calves.
In the first year with my dog I lost 20 lbs. and kept it off for a year and a half. I gained a few pounds back during our recent move due to going without my cookware, eating take-out food items too often, and being separated from my dog.
Now we’re reunited and I’m back on track, eating healthier and exercising regularly.
Dogs can be GREAT motivation to exercise. And they make exercise so much more fun, too.

well i’m overweight, but my dogs never are. And it doesn’t matter how much i walk them etc - they stay trim and i stay fat. Sigh.

We all went on the eat less, play more diet this summer.
The winner of our version of “Who’s the Biggest Looser” was Teddy Boo (aka Lard Ass) who went from a ginormous 15.8 lbs (he actually was up to 16.2 at one point)to 14.5 lbs for a loss of 8.2% of total weight.
Idaa Star went from 12 lbs to 11.2 (6.6%) and I lost 2.9% and no I’m not giving you my before/after weights, LOL
