Change of seasons, change of life: Back to the university!

August 17, 2009

This week is one of the busiest in recent memory!

PurdueLogoAfter coming back from the big bachelor and bachelorette bash in Chicago, I am throwing myself into the sea of red tape (OK – black and gold are the Purdue colors, so I guess it is black and gold tape) for my 2 day orientation as I come on faculty at the Veterinary School as an assistant clinical professor.  I think I have meetings with every janitor and secretary in the whole university today.

It will be an interesting transition to go from hardcore clinical ER practice to the inner workings of a teaching hospital, with students and interns all over the place. I have also been trying to squeeze in some time for the other half of my professional life ( as a consultant to the Veterinary Information Network, or VIN) along with all the other things. Plus, keeping up with posting!  No time for my usual tasks of lounging in my bathrobe while underlings cater to my every whim.

My first day at the helm of ICU will be this Thursday, when I will disseminate misinformation to the students, and try and save a few lives in the process. University life will never be the same.

I am sure that some of the material from teaching cases and interactions will all the characters around this place will provide some interesting (I hope) material for future posts. Stay tuned!

  1. Did you get new underwear for your first day of school? My folks always started us out with new socks and undies!

Couldn’t really have much clothing excitement otherwise, because it was a Catholic school — uniforms, dontcha know.

  2. Yes - frilly and lacy, and really barely there. But the students must never know!

  4. Oooh, I know a lot of 4th year Purdue Vet students! Don’t worry though, your secret is safe with me. Besides most of them are far too exhausted to care.

There are some darn interesting cases going through that place. You should have no problem finding things to write about! Best of luck on your first day.

  5. Go for it, Dr. Tony. You’ll rock!

Wish my panties were that interesting, but thanks to Dodger we all know about my boring white cotton briefs…

  6. Oh, dude. Please. Get the colors right before first day of classes! It’s old gold and black, not black and gold. Yes, Purdue commemorates a long-ago team that died in some accident by making everyone wear a color that *no one* looks good in.

Have fun there. I loved the place even if I did study engineering.

And please see if you can get the griffon back. I miss that emblem.
