Buy from a puppy-mill retail outlet or Internet site, and you’re supporting this

May 29, 2009

Details of the Washington state  puppy-mill bust are here. The person who “cared for” these dogs has relinquished ownership of them.

Get your pets from a shelter, rescue group or a compassionate, reputable and ethical  breeder. Or this — dogs spending their lives in a shopping cart — is on your soul.

Already have a pet? I won’t buy so much as a pet toy from a puppy mill retail outlet, and I encourage you to do the same.

This only ends when WE end it. Everyone who bought a puppy  that came from this miller kept these dogs living in a shopping cart.

  1. NOT GUILTY? and if convicted she gets 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine? I hope they are able to file appropriate charges and put this person in a place where she will never have access to another animal for the rest of her life. And I hope that there are decent laws in place to protect other animals from this fate.

    This is absolutely unbelievable!

I, too, will not buy a thing from a store that supports millers and backyard breeders. PERIOD!!!

  2. At the least she needs to be banned from owning any animals whatsoever until, say, the 12th of Never.

  3. I interrupt for an important news announcement!

Pet people have kicked butt in Australia!
    They flat got it DONE!
Laws were changed, in short order, waiting on NOBODY!
Cats are no longer dying from irradiated food!

    That is good news!
Nutro just got the crap fined out of them in the EU and the pet people in europe are out to kick Nutro, and Mars out of Europe entirely, gone, adios! Mars is BLEEDING money and there are more wounds to come for this crap company. Yes!

Google if you care about details and please post to other pet sites.

    Happy Friday. Yes, it is.

  5. We have one of those high-priced pet boutiques that sells mill dogs under the guise of “professional breeders who have champion lines and just happen to sell through a pet store because they’re just that good”. They sell toys and clothes and treats and whatnot as well. I won’t buy *anything* there and I discourage anyone I can from even setting foot in the place.

It’s *evil* and I’m not sure if the owners/workers actually realize what they’re doing or not? Do they believe the line that they feed the customers? That all these adorable puppies come from quality homes and good people? They can’t be that naive, can they? Is it possible that the puppy brokers have snowed them that well? Or maybe they believe what they want to believe…just like the folks buying the puppies.

  6. I’m working on a friend who continues to buy supplies from a Petland and keeps telling me that this owner “really cares about the pets in his store” and that “it’s so clean and he takes them outside”

I keep reminding her of where the puppies are coming from. I’ll definitely show her this picture!

  7. If you can stomach it, here’s the video. Beyond wrong. Dog lovers cannot afford not to work together to stop this.

  8. Sorry, I meant to say that DOGS cannot afford for dog lovers not to work together to stop this.

  9. That is the saddest picture I have ever seen.
Pet Crazy sells pups from Quebec millers . I contacted head office about it and got no reply. How do we stop this sickness .
My heart cries for the little dog in that picture and I would take her home in a heart beat. Speaking of beating..that miller needs one.
I dont understand why anyone would subject any dog to such conditions. How can I help stop it from happening ?

  10. This is great Gina, thanks for increasing awareness on puppy mills and all their issues.

    ::To all bloggers::
This is a huge problem, I’ve linked/blogged this post in my blog and I encourage everyone to do the same. We need to raise a lot of awareness right now that there’s big news and real emotional images on this issue. We need people to understand that puppy mills are a real big problem and see the extent of the abuse they perform on dogs.

  11. HB 3180 is being heard on Wednesday. Hopefully it will pass and TX can get the message out to puppy mills that they’re not welcome here.

  12. I agree with Heather. That has got to be the saddest picture I’ve ever seen. People who keep animals in those conditions should be forced to live like that themselves.
