Seven the hard way: The McPuppies

April 7, 2009

Important update: I have gotten e-mail from people who are interested in one of these puppies, or, alternately, are angry that I’m “using this blog to sell puppies.”

Folks, these puppies have a waiting list longer than there are puppies to wait for. They are all committed, and that has been mostly the case long before we even started “what iffing” the breeding.

So … please no requests for information, and no more angry e-mails about puppy selling.

Thanks!

***

We lost two puppies. One I chose to euthanize after realizing he wouldn’t make it because of multiple birth defects. The other was tiny and stillborn.

That left seven: Four boys, three girls. All doing well, as is McKenzie.

Sixteen hours of labor. McKenzie napped between puppies. I did not.

I’m going to be napping now, gratefully.

And here they are:

  2. Congratulations!

Sorry for the loss but that is the way of the animal world.

I am sure you are going to have a blast in between wearing yourself out with puppy management.

  4. Congratulations, Gina, on McKenzie’s seven little McCuties. And I’m very sorry about the two that were lost.

    Love the color-coding, BTW.

Looking forward to regular puppy updates.

  5. I am sorry you lost two. That’s always distressing! Here’s to the 7 survivors and their terrific mom & grammie.
Hmmm…. 7 wonders of the ancient world, seven seas, 7 original planets, 7 deadly sins, 7 virtues….the possibilities for litter names are endless x 7! :)

  6. Congratulations! Glad you and McKenzie are doing well.

McMama looks exhausted in that picture, poor girl. Having babies is hard work.

I’m sorry to hear that you lost 2 pups. It’s never easy.

I think it might be a bit much to ask for daily photos of the babies, but can I request weekly pictures?

    Are you keeping one?

  7. That’ll do.

    Go to bed.

  11. Guess this makes me an aunt! Daddy Zin is my sister’s dog. Glad things went well, for the most part. So sorry about the 2 that didn’t make it. I look forward to seeing more pics as they grow!

  12. It is wonderful that McKenzie gave you seven adorable pups, even though two did not survive.

The delivery was hard work for both of you, but the picture of mom and her rickrack-adorned new pups is priceless.

  22. Congratulations!
To Mama dog and everybody who helped bringing the pups into this world. Just brings back Memories when my Great Pyrenees Natascha had her Litter of 7, we were lucky not to have lost one pup. They look so cute all lined up for milk. Gabriele from Paw-Wow

  27. Gorgeous babies. Good job Mom and Grandmom.
What a great idea with the rick rack. I have 8 babies here , under two weeks and still cant tell them apart when they`re eating. Now I can.
    thanks
