Comment by 2CatMom — April 2, 2009 @ 8:00 pm
I thought twins were uncomfortable! How is McKenzie feeling?
Comment by C.L.H. — April 2, 2009 @ 8:56 pm
Aw, shucks, that’s so neat. I hope you got a release from McKenzie to publish her medical test results :>)
I always wanted to breed dogs but never had the nerve. Good on you, Gina!
Comment by Caveat — April 2, 2009 @ 9:38 pm
PS You can see why dogs are pack animals, eh?
Comment by Caveat — April 2, 2009 @ 9:39 pm

Nine? Fabulous!!! Here’s to an easy whelping!
Comment by Anne T — April 3, 2009 @ 4:26 am
I can see that you will not be getting much sleep at night for a little after they are born!
Comment by Colorado Transplant — April 3, 2009 @ 5:40 am
Thanks, everyone! I’m really looking forward with delight and …. uh … fear.
As for McKenzie, she is uncomfortable. Those of you who have children can well understand: Pregnancy is not fun at the end!
Comment by Gina Spadafori — April 3, 2009 @ 7:34 am
There you go, right between “perfect number for a seminar” and “barrel of monkeys.”
I’m just working out your back-yard scenarios for this spring, nine retriever puppies and the exploding population of baby chicks.
What could go wrong?! Nothing!
Comment by H. Houlahan — April 3, 2009 @ 8:03 am
Don’t forget: Lots of fragile new plants. :)
It’s all good, and if nothing else, it’ll be good for MATERIAL, as we writer-types say.
Comment by Gina Spadafori — April 3, 2009 @ 8:05 am
Told ya!!! But congrats!! Can’t wait to see the news and updates. And sleep now, while you still can ….
Comment by Susan — April 3, 2009 @ 8:06 am
Congrats Gina! You’ve sparked an interest in Flatties (and backyard chickens!) with me & my husband, and we’re hoping to adopt one from a rescue when we move to a new home next year. Our Foxhound Jake needs a sister, but we need a bigger yard first! Best of luck with the pups!

Gina, Thank you for sharing the ultrasound. How exciting! Yay for McKenzie!!
Comment by Susan Tripp — April 3, 2009 @ 9:29 am
So, how much time are you taking off from work? Can’t wait to start reading all the puppy updates.
Comment by Kim Thornton — April 3, 2009 @ 9:39 am
Just a couple days. I come home for lunch and once the puppers are a two-three days old, they should be OK with mom for short periods with Judy looking in.

Great times ahead! Will be tuning in every a.m. for sure!
p.s. The awesome image looks like a Dali. Frame it!

Can’t wait for newborn puppy pics!

Jenny - beware - once you have an FCR, you’ll never want to be w/out one. As much as I love and support rescue, I hope you DON’T find one in rescue (not finding one would mean responsible breeders are doing their jobs!). A return to breeder dog may be a good match if puppyhood isn’t on your agenda. Beware though - they are puppies FOREVER!
I’ve been telling Marcie all about her new little cousins-to-be. She’s just happy that I’m not bringing one home. She is very insistent that SHE is the puppy, TYVM!
Comment by Janet Boss — April 3, 2009 @ 12:59 pm
Congratulations :)
Make the most of your plants while you can though. My lot totally wrecked the whole garden, and it’s amazing just how large a pot they can manage to knock over when they all work together. Even the cactus wasn’t safe. I’ve kept two (dogs) and they’re coming up to 6 months now. Give it another 6 months and it might be safe to buy new plants.
Have fun (I can totally relate to the ‘fear’ LOL)

No matter what fabulous whelping bed you manage to fix up, no matter how many old fluffy blankets arranged just so you have- if you have an open suitcase with your favorite silk dress unfortunately still in it, in the closet? THAT is where the pups will be born.
Just saying.
Put a rubber sheet on the bed, YOUR bed, now.
Just do it.
Because after the suitcase proves a bit too small, the next step is your bed. You will not be calm when it happens so get the bed protected now, if you are smarter than I was, you will SHUT the suitcase before the blessed event.
Oh, and the cats like to watch too.
Have you thought about names?
Comment by Imissmypets — April 3, 2009 @ 2:45 pm
The pups will be so cute they will be hard to give up—especially with all the hard work you will have put into them.
First the x-rays and then the pictures, I hope, if you have any time left over.
Congratulations, and may McKenzie recover quickly after the event. All those puppies for one mom—OMG :-D
Comment by Colorado Transplant — April 3, 2009 @ 3:23 pm
10, I swear there are 10 in there. In a week you will know. What fun for you!
May the whelping be easy and the pups healthy and pretty like their mother.

So, when can we expect to see the unveiling of the puppy blog? Because, seriously - you are GOING to need one!
Here’s hoping for an easy delivery - keep us posted!
