Gratuitous “House” blogging: death cat edition

March 16, 2009

Tonight’s episode of “House” jumps the shark, so to speak. In “Here, Kitty,” a diagnosticat that predicts nursing home deaths–based on Oscar, here–has a nurse purrsuaded that she’s going to die. House escapes mauling multiple times as he stuffs the cat into a backpack or a rolling bin to haul it around the hospital, attempting to prove that it doesn’t have the ability to channel the grim reaper. He satisfies himself and Wilson that the cat is attracted by the warmth of patients with fevers or heating pads, but the patient has the last word. At the end, the cat is still in House’s office, even though its now-healthy caretaker has left the building.

Will we see the cat again? I’m guessing not, although it shares Hugh Laurie’s piercing stare and disdainful demeanor. Stay tuned. (And House? If you keep the cat, you gotta scoop the litter box more often.)

  1. No comments so far - was I the only one (besides Kim) who watched House last night?

I dunno - I didn’t think it was a jump-the-shark episode. House has to have some pretty far-fetched story lines just to have all those medical mysteries to puzzle over. And the writers did base the plot on Oscar (that’s a great photo of him, BTW - what a face!)

I also wondered what the fate of the cat would be. At the end, the cat jumped up by unhappy Dr. Taub, and I got the impression that maybe the cat would be going home with him.

At least it was a cat on TV for a change! (re: the subject of a blog post from last week).

P.S. You’re right, Kim, about the litterbox - it definitely needed attention!

  2. The “jump the shark” comment was a reference to the beginning of the episode, where House is racing his toy cars down a ramp, at the end of which they would jump a shark. Apparently, a lot of people didn’t notice that, including me; Jerry had to point it out.

  3. Oh, now I get it - wondered why you qualified “jump the shark” in your original post. I confess: I missed the first 5 or 10 minutes. USA Network is re-broadcasting “Here Kitty” on March 27 at 11 pm, so I can try to catch the entire episode then. Thanks, Kim!

  4. Hello

Watched this episode tonight. It was the Mutt’s Knutts! Can anyone tell me what breed of cat “Debbie” is? It’s a really gorgeous cat, quite Siamese-ee but I suspect it’s another native pure breed from an eastern region.

    Ta, Abi

  5. I am thinking the breed of cat is a Russian Blue. Very talkative, green eyes or yellow eyes, quite proud looking. Their fur does have a bluish tinge to it and I believe they are a large framed cat.
