In addition to my above comment . . . NO ONE should let their cats “out at night.” Anyone that does doesn’t deserve to have a cat as an animal companion. I’m an archaeology student, and the Eygptians domesticated cats over 2000 years ago. Also, anyone that “de-claws” a cat, should have one, either. I am very, very bitter, and very, very hurt watching my little girl die.

Every veterinary site I’ve looked at on the web is so full of b.s. when it comes to vaccine induced sarcoma in cats. No one wants to take the blame. I am very bitter. My first kitty died of cancer, now . . . my second kitty is dying of vaccine induced sarcoma. No one told me the risks that were involved when I gave my cats their shots. My little girl kitty has had 3 surgeries, now she needs another one . . . her tumor is almost as big as my hand now. ALL I wanted to do was be a good pet owner (mommy) and give my kitties shots to make sure they lived longer, healthier lives. What did I give them? CANCER! WHY was I not informed of this information. The drug companies should have to pay for this! My animal companions are part of my family — not just pets — and I am very. very bitter. I have to watch yet another companion die, because no one warned me about vaccine induced sarcoma! I will NEVER give another animal companion vaccines, again.

I would like to give the liquid ivermectin, but is it poured onto the food or directly into the mouth?

I tried, incorrectly, previously with the 1% solution, and dosed much too high, but the 0.05% pre mixed solution sounds much easier to dose correctly. However, a bottle like that would last for years, does it go bad?

Pai, you really don’t get it. It’s not that he’s a jerk; lots of people are jerks. It’s that he demonstrated in the Crested nonsense that he actually doesn’t understand what a scientific paper says when his hot-button issues are involved, and therefore his “summing up” a study that involves another hot-button issue of his is worthless in terms of learning what the study actually says.

He’s not a reliable source because he not only isn’t objective; he doesn’t even know that he’s not objective.

And honestly, whether I think Terrierman is a jerk or not really has no bearing on what I can clearly read that science says, nor does him agreeing with a study instantly discredit it and the other papers that support it (like the Atwell-Boreman heartworm study from 1988). Just Google ‘Atwell heartworm reachback’.

But for some people, no matter how many third-party scientific sources are referenced, the fact that ONE was a guy they hate makes them unwilling to even consider them. That’s disappointingly petty.

I’m not citing HIM as an authority, he (and the Tibetan site) both link the seasonal maps and sum up the study that otherwise you have to pay 15$ to read.

Pai, we already know from the kerfuffle over Cresteds that Terrierman is incapable of reading for content a scientific paper that contains some of his hot-button words. And in the case of the paper he cites as authority for his views on heartworm prevention, because access to the paper (rather than the abstract) requires registration, I’m reasonably sure he hasn’t even read the paper; just the abstract.

Anyway, I thought you had sworn off Terrierman after the “Cresteds are deformed monsters” idiocy. What’s with citing him as an authority now?

This was a vet I used a long time ago in Massachusetts.

Out here in Colorado, in my county, only a three year shot is required. My present veterinarian is comfortable with that, thank goodness.

Colorado Transplant: the manufacturer(s) of the rabies vaccine sell it BOTH labelled for one year and for 3 years. The contents are the same; the packaging is different. Your vet isn’t quite lying, but he’s being way disingenuous and (assuming the law where you live allows the 3 year vax), you should find a different one.
