Gratuitous dog-blogging: McKenzie day

McKenzie is four today. She is the youngest of my dogs and the quirkiest I’ve ever shared my life with. She’s smart, and has always picked things up quickly — especially tricks. She pretty much self-taught herself a handful of useful ones, most notably picking up and handing me anything I drop. She loves to retrieve everything, most vexingly the chickens.
She finished her championship easily, and is three of four legs towards her junior hunter. She could no doubt be accomplished in field and agility, were she not my dog. I just don’t have time for a lot of serious training.
She loves her friends, two-legged and four-legged. When she see them she starts bouncing. And yet, she can also show perfect manners under trying conditions, as in a San Francisco restaurant.
She is named after Christie’s mother, Kathleen McKenzie.
McKenzie may also be pregnant, but we don’t yet know how that round-trip to Minnesota turned out. All will be apparent soon.

There’s another pet B-Day here later this week, but his Feline Orangeness refuses to share a post with a mere dog so that will have to wait until later. Yes, that’s right: Ilario, a/k/a The Orange Squirt, is all grown up and almost a year old!
Image: My friend Katie, owner of Papa Zin, sent this lovely piece (top) in hopes that McKenzie’s trip will bear fruit. McKenzie will also hold anything you ask her to. And of course, Ilario from last April. He is quite a bit larger now.
