Gratuitous cat-blogging: Is that comfortable? edition
By Gina Spadafori

One of my co-workers (and I use the term “worker” very loosely) somehow manages to find room on the desk to sleep. Clara started doing this a few months ago, when Ilario finally got so large there was no longer room for them both on the top of the cat tree:

ah…er…ahem…only the coolest of cats would venture there…
…and are those _dog_ books in Clara’s space? And poop bags? What’s a cat got to do to get some attention around here…?!?
…the collar, that’s _dog_ stuff, too! In fact, the only _cat_ thing is an image of a cat challenged with lots of food each day.
sheesh!

One of the books turned the wrong way is the Spanish edition of our “Why Do Cats Always Land on Their Feet?”
And yes, those are poop bags. But at least they’re EMPTY poop bags! (The white bag is NOT a poop bag. But it does have a leash inside, so … your point is made.)

Hey - my cat likes to sit on (or lay on) paper bags (which I tend to be remiss about folding when I get home from the dreaded grocery shopping).
What is it with cat butts on paper, anyway?

My feline five say “But of course it is comfortable!” My canine would like to agree, but she knows that getting on top of workspaces/tables is frowned upon when you weigh 50lbs. Not that she has tried it . . .

at least the kittie’s fur isn’t matted, so you must pay “some” attention.
one of mine likes to live on top of the printer, which explains why it’s still in the bag and not connected, sigh.

Clara says: Hey Mom - you need to move some of this stuff so I can spread out my beautious self.

Ha! Back before laptops, the Queen of the Universe used to sit between the monitor and the keyboard. Now that I have a laptop, it sits on my left leg while Lindsey sits on my right leg if it’s on my lap and if it’s on my desk (like now), I have to sit sideways so that Lindsey can fit on my lap.

Ours have become very skilled at walking on the keyboard without touching any keys. Because it wins a free, quick trip to the floor.
We had a guest once who needed to check email. He came out of the office with this weird smile on his face. “Do you know your cat walked between me and the monitor on the keyboard and NEVER TOUCHED A KEY? I’ve never seen that before.”
Hee hee.

I’m typing with one of my cats sitting on my left leg. I’m glad that he’s there, because his favorite place to sit is on top of my MacBook. He doesn’t care if it is open or closed. It’s obviously a kitty warming pad.
So far he’s managed to find the right key combinations to turn the screen into a negative image and to turn the voice activation on.
Took me over an hour to figure out the first problem (plus some help from a friend). The second one was easier. I called Mac Support.

Patti, watch out for when your kitty learns to pop out the keys. I had one kitty that could pop out several keys if you turned your head and forgot to put the cover down. He’d put his claw in just the right position and ‘pop’! Yes, that was me at the Mac shop trying to explain why my keyboard was missing half it’s keys. . . . Note to Mac users, kitty keyboard alterations are not covered under warranty, lol!~ the tech that was helping me thought they should be though ;)

I have to site somewhat cross-legged at the computer so one cat can stretch out on my right leg. The only problem is this is not good on the sciatic nerve - it gets painful after several hours. Yep, several hourse, cause when one kitty is done with the lap, the other one claims it. Funny thing, they won’t sit on my lap anywhere else, even if I cross my legs the same way.
Usually they stay away from the keyboard, however, the other night, one kitty took a stroll across my keyboard and managed to put my computer TO SLEEP.
Which was OK, except I didn’t know how to ‘wake it up.” (Yeesh…. now if could only teach him to do laundry…..)

I’m going to post a collection of computer/desk cats, saving for a “slow news day.”
Send me your pics. Put in the subject line, “Desk Cats” and include the name you use here (so I know who you are) and the name of your cat(s).

Dang, not pictures of a 55 pound mutt who insists on sitting in my lap while I’m using the laptop? :O)

I love it that cats will find a place to sleep in the midst of absolutely anything! My Oscar boy has taken to sleeping in my recycle box in the office lately! So cute! :)
