A year in photography from one of my favs

January 1, 2009

I didn’t get to meet Sarah K. Andrew in person until the Breeders Cup World Thoroughbred Championships in SoCal last fall, but I have long been a big fan of her work. Since I first spotted her pictures on Flickr a couple years ago, she has grown so much as a photographer. Last year was remarkable for her both personally and professionally, with her losses and her triumphs all captured through her lenses. Brave stuff, a lot of it.

She has put together a post with her best images of 2008, including a few I know were very hard to look at again, because of the sad story of loss behind them.

The pictures tell the story, so I won’t say anymore except: Go see.

  1. Ooozing with talent. There are too many “one in a million” shots in there to be a lucky capture. Great stuff.

  2. Gina,

Thank you so much for sharing my work with your community, as well as all of your encouragement.

Because of you, 2008 was an even more unforgettable year. I fulfilled my dream of sharing my work in a book and the story of Alibar was published.

When 2008 began, it seemed like I was going to have him forever, or at least for a few more years. He was sound, shiny, and sassy. How quickly a devastating disease claimed the life of the most vivacious horse I’ve ever known.

The timing of the publication of The Ultimate Horse Lover was both sad and perfect. What better tribute is there to my special horse than to share his story and photos with fellow horse lovers?

Best Wishes to you, your family, and to the entire Pet Connection community for a joyous 2009.
