So says Delaware Online. Biden will buy from a breeder, adopt from a shelter. Two dogs are better than one, what the heck.

Let’s hope he’s doing this because he truly wants a second dog, and not because he’s caved to “you’re KILLING A SHELTER DOG!!OMG&)*(!” hysteria.
Because that? That would be a really crappy reason to get a second dog.

I’m sure it’s a cave. So it goes.

even if it is a cave, at least he has dog experience. Hopefully the rescue dog won’t be a puppy.
On the upside, at least the news is out about Golden Rescues. Popular family dog that many may not know they can get via rescue. When my parents wanted to bring a dog into the family after their’s had gone to the bridge, my mom contacted me about finding a rescue. She adopted from NoCal beagle rescue. I’m the only one in my family that knew (experience) how to find a rescue (or responsible breeder) and what to look for. She got just what she was looking for :) And she now knows how to “look” for a pup. A second pup may join them down the line. I think (know) my mom is smart enough to find a rescue, but it is a bit overwhelming trying to find the “right” place to get a dog. The more info out there, the better.
I am liking the idea of “big” dogs in the WH. Maybe they can be ambassadors against pet weight limits! ;)

Too bad he bought from a crappy breeder though. He would have been better off with rescue all the way around, or doing better research for a breeder.

I’m a little touchy on this subject at the moment, mainly because I was just told I’d have to go before the board of the shelter I’m in the running to direct. The reason? I have to ‘convince’ them that I’m not somehow the enemy, just by virtue of my being a breeder.
I’m taking a HUGE pay cut even thinking about this job, just because I really, really care about the concept of No Kill, and think this shelter has unlimited room to become a shining star, otherwise I’d tell them to pound salt.
Maybe they suspect my secret goal is to convince all those potential shelter adopters that they really need a French Bulldog, instead. Subversion from within, so to speak. Sigh.

I wonder if they force every applicant to go before the shelter board… to determine if any have ever allowed a pet to have an accidental litter or re-homed a pet for any reason.

Joe Biden has the same right the rest of us do to make the choice he and his family feel is right for them as to what kind of dog they get and where they get it, puppy mills and BYB’s excepted.
Being knee-jerk judgmental about those choices ultimately helps neither the rescue or the dogs.
I suspect he’s been pounded on by experts during his career and isn’t having too much trouble not be stampeded by the irrational part of the rescue movement. I don’t really think it’s a cave myself. But who knows for sure? Not I.
Frogdog, kudos to you for what you hope to do. If they’ll let you.

I’ve always felt that having two dogs is a great idea. And I don’t judge where people get their pets (as long as they try to avoid backyard breeders and puppy mills).
I do judge people on how they treat their pets and I am sure these dogs will be well cared for. For that I am thankful!
