‘Gina Spadafori is an imbecile’
By Gina Spadafori
November 3, 2008
Dr. Becker told me this morning that someone had posted this “review” of our “The Ultimate Dog-Lover.” So I went to look. In case it disappears, I’m giving you the whole thing:
Pamela Ensminger “pvineswinger”
(Washington DC) – See all my reviews
Gina Spadafori is an imbecile. I can’t imagine how she is making money writing books about animals, let alone animal welfare…?
I’m surprised she doesn’t promote the NRA and hunting!
Her personal views are hidden well in marketing.
OK, seriously: Has anyone ever had the impression that my personal views on anything are hidden?
I dunno, it just made me laugh this morning.

I’m glad your’e laughing… I can hear my late mom saying..”sticks and stones…names will never hurt me”…but in case they might a little….just think and know how many know you are not an imbecile!

I think you otta buy her and her fey-an-say Eric that nice soup tureen they want.
Comment by H. Houlahan — November 3, 2008 @ 2:25 pm
Well, she is certainly alone in that line of thinking among the Amazon reviewers. It strikes me funny when people who obviously have no clue call others imbeciles or other similar names.

Oh, would that be funny!!
Comment by Gina Spadafori — November 3, 2008 @ 2:54 pm
LOL! Takes all kinds, I guess.

ROFL… you know who that is, don’t you?

This title showed up in my RSS feed - and I thought someone had hi-jacked your blog! So happy to see that it’s just you poking fun.
Comment by Janeen — November 3, 2008 @ 4:22 pm
Just got off the phone w/Christie. It’s someone we threw off the blog. :)
Comment by Gina Spadafori — November 3, 2008 @ 4:49 pm
Oh what a shock! (All I could find was that she was on some Box Turtle Conservation Society membership list. I thought maybe she was some PETa operative or something!)

Any Amazon customer can leave comments on reviews, by the by, assuming any of you can stop laughing long enough.

I want her crystal ball because I’d like to know why she picked on you when there are 4 names listed under About the Author.
Comment by cheryl — November 3, 2008 @ 7:56 pm
I have learned that you can’t make everyone happy. There are some really “interesting” people out there. And here I thought I was the only one being insulted online.
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Those of us with brains know better. :)

Marie and I share the same cyber stalker. Your welcome Marie! Here she is accusing me of being passive aggresive because my dog is running for president.

Thanks for sharing Gina.

My take: She is jealous of your success!
Your writing is fabulous, and she is GREEN with envy—so green she ought to be planted in an out of the way place!
Keep on laughing, writing, and also sharing on this blog—it is stories like this that make it easier to take when we ourselves get criticism.

Oh Nancy: “Here she is accusing me of being passive aggresive “… unlike the passive-aggressiveness of, say, posting anonymous attacks?
LOL!

I just posted a good review for you, Gina, on Amazon.com for the Ultimate Dog Lover book. I urge a lot of bloggers here to do the same.
I do not like to see such unkind reviews of your books when they are simply NOT TRUE!
Comment by Colorado Transplant — November 4, 2008 @ 9:10 am
I prefer “ignorant slut” (that’s a joke).
So is it dorky that I’m still running into bookstores to look for the books???
Comment by Sarah K. Andrew — November 4, 2008 @ 5:41 pm
Gosh, I hope it’s not dorky, or I really AM an imbecile! :)
Comment by Gina Spadafori — November 4, 2008 @ 5:44 pm
One is not a complete human being until one has friends AND enemies… I’ve read many stupid comments from Amazon’s reviewers about all kinds of books.
Comment by Cathy Z. — November 6, 2008 @ 1:18 pm
I’m glad to see your Kool-aid drinking followers are still just as blind as ever. Believe it or not, Gina, not everyone agrees with your perspective. Even people that do a lot more in animal rescue- and do not-for-profit. But I guess I’ll get thrown off of your site for criticizing…
Comment by Jessica — February 26, 2009 @ 12:57 pm
I guess the difference here, Jessica, is that the people who read and comment here tend to NOT be drinking the Kool-Aid. And we like that about our readers.
We leave the brain-dead spoon-fed-by-someone-else zealotry for people like you, who wouldn’t know the way forward if a Queensland heeler were biting you in the ass.
Another difference here: We don’t censor. We encourage discussion.
When people finally do get thrown off — rarely — it’s usually for continuing to be insulting and not contributing anything to a discussion over time. And usually with plenty of warning. Honestly, I bet in four years we’ve tossed less than a dozen people.
Comment by Gina Spadafori — February 26, 2009 @ 1:09 pm
If you “don’t censor” (an absolute) you wouldn’t “throw people off.”
Comment by Jessica — February 26, 2009 @ 1:20 pm
This isn’t a free-fire zone for idiots. You bring something intelligent to the discussion — even if you disagree — or you find another sandbox to play in.
Jessica, I think another sandbox is in your future. Because let me tell you, you haven’t brought anything worthwhile yet to any discussion.

I might be sorry I say this, but there are plenty of sand boxes in the desert of Saudi-Arabia.
I, myself, like a positive tone on this blog.
Especially at a time like this when one or more are grieving for a human or an animal.
Comment by Colorado Transplant — February 26, 2009 @ 2:05 pm
Jessica is right + We are wrong = WE’RE the ones drinking Kool-aid? Ha.
Jessica, try having a homemade thought of your own instead of the ones that come in a can.
Oh, and people often ascribe to others what they know would be true if it was them in the same position. What kind of Kool-Aid do you like, anyway?
Comment by Susan Fox — February 26, 2009 @ 7:07 pm
“I might be sorry I say this, but there are plenty of sand boxes in the desert of Saudi-Arabia.” Colorado Transplant
The Rub’al Khali (empty quarter) comes to mind, and if one digs deep enough with one’s shovel and pail, the possibility of striking crude oil is very real. And if that isn’t satisfactory, other suitable places for a sandbox might be the Danakil and the Takla-makan deserts.
Take lots of Kool-Aid!
Comment by Anne T — February 26, 2009 @ 7:27 pm
Oh, the Takla-makan. Sven Hedin was the first European to cross it. He and one other guy were to only ones to survive. It’s an epic tale of someone who was new at the exploring business and didn’t quite understand what they’d gotten themselves (and everyone else who went with him) into.
Hedin was a great explorer, but he seemed to always leave a long trail of dead animals in his wake, and some humans too. On the other hand, he appears to depend on the dogs that he took with him for companionship and connection. He speaks of them quite a bit in “My Life as an Explorer”. They seemed to mostly be mastiff types. He either bought them along the way or they joined up with him.
I ran across a great Hedin quote when I was reading Roy Chapman Andrews (Central Asiatic Expeditions, 1920s): “Adventures are generally the result of poor planning”.
