Gratuitous Seabiscuit-blogging: Did you miss me? edition

I’m back!
Two long days of driving, two great days (long) days of watching the best horses in the world at the Breeders Cup. Not one horse or jockey was hurt, which may help to push other states to follow California’s mandated move to synthetic surfaces and no-steroid racing.
Our publisher’s horses — War Monger and Go Between — didn’t win, but I had a most amazing time anyway. The place was jammed, and everywhere you turned you bumped into someone interesting. I literally slammed into the Gov. of Kentucky (oops, sorry Governor), and the Gov. of California was sitting right behind us. Celebrities? If you care, they were there. (Not my thing.) Security was ultra-tight, but since I was with an owner, I had an all-access pass.
Back to work in the morning. In the meantime, here I am with Seabiscuit in the paddock at Santa Anita, credentials around my neck and my wrist.

Update: Going through some of my pictures, I quickly hit on a favorite. Just before the Breeders Cup Classic, our publisher Peter Vegso, owner of Go Between, shared a few words with top jockey Garret Gomez. When I got home I watched the TiVo of the races, and you could see me taking pictures of ESPN taking pictures. Strange to see!

Well of course we did!
Welcome home, and glad no horses were hurt while you were there!
How did your critters make out in your absence (and how did you make out with them absent! G!)?

Sounds like fun! My ears perked up when they mentioned the race on the late news last night :) They even mentioned it was a synthetic track! As much as some folks whine about states gettin’ all over in their bizness, I must say, when it gets down to brass tacks, CA, NY and a few others stand out in protecting the interests of people and animals. If the fed gov isn’t going to protect our and animals health and safety, I say let the states step up.
Sounds like a fun time. I would love to see some of those horses close up. Such a thing of beauty they are. {sigh}
Welcome back!!
