  2. “If these dogs only knew what a difference they make. Certainly, there’s nothing that can replace the precision of a dog’s nose—and absolutely nothing that can replace a dog’s heart.” —-Bob Sessions, rescue worker, Federal Emergency Management Agency

I met Bob and his dog, Sky (the first FEMA rescue dog team at the Pentagon) at a tribute to the SAR dog teams after 9/11 when I also had the opportunity to meet a number of the amazing FEMA Search and Rescue dogs and their extraordinary handlers who worked at Ground Zero and The Pentagon. Cherished are the memories of time spent talking with those remarkable people, listening to their search and rescue stories of 9/11 and watching those heroic dogs demonstrate how they work. I was blessed to have been able to give hugs to the dogs, and my photos of them all will never let me forget.

  3. I’ve read stories about the handlers and dogs who responded after 9/11 and after Oklahoma. These people and dogs do an uncomprehensibly difficult and emotionally draining job. God bless them all.

  5. Remember it wasn’t just search dogs, but also therapy dogs there for the people onscene as well. Pics of both are on my site.

Did anyone ever do a follow up to see how many of the dogs who were there ended up with health issues?
