DogCars, trucks and hot rods – Chrysler keeps them coming

Chrysler has been a busy beagle this summer, rolling out at least four new models that don’t fit the mold of the “smaller is better mentality” that many in the general populace holds these days.
But the automaker has a fuel-efficient theme to its recent litter of new pups.
Two of the newbies are hybrids . . . BIG hybrids.
The Dodge Durango and Chrylser Aspen hybrids offer full-size SUV space and utility while also being finicky about fuel to the tune of an average 22 miles per gallon. These DogCar dandies offer much hope for owners of big brutes or multiple canines, who don’t want to break the bank at the gas pump.
Then came the retro roll-out of the new Dodge Challenger. It’s a throwback to the days of sock hops and drive-ins, but offers little practicality to those in search of a true DogCar. An improved HEMI engine manages to increase fuel economy by an average of just four percent over last year’s introductory model.
And it’s a blast to drive.
Last month, the busy automaker unveiled its newly redesigned Dodge Ram 1500 for 2009. With several cab sizes and style to choose from, the new Ram offers plenty of interior room for pups and passengers, while also adding some versatility to the cargo space in back.
Carrying cargo in the pickup bed is made easier with a new removable cargo management system called “Ram Box“ that has a bed divider that can be locked in wherever necessary to ensure your load is safe and secure. It also can be used to extend the bed for oversize loads, and has a rail system with sliding, adjustable cleats for infinitely adjustable tie-down capability.
While none of these vehicles appear to be contenders for the DogCar hall of fame, they do offer a glimpse into some of what one U.S. automaker is doing to keep the wheels rolling.
