Gratuitous baby hen blogging: It’s an egg! edition
By Gina Spadafori
August 13, 2008
One of the three new hens laid an egg! The youngsters are only four months old, so I was very surprised to find it. Guess they’re settling in well.
These are the eggs I collected today, including the tiny egg from one of the new Cinnamon Queens who joined the flock two days ago. The egg in the center is from one of the Americuanas. The green-shelled egg is from Viviana, the third Americuana. The rounder, darker egg on the left is from one of the Barred Plymouth Rocks, and the top left egg, a long, rosy-tinged brown, is from one of the Rhode Island Reds.

I have a feeling I’m going to cave and get some chickens next year. You’ve worn me down.
That photo is beautiful.

My hens bring me a lot of pleasure … and a lot of eggs! The ladies are friendly, pretty and very entertaining. They’ve exceeded all my expectations, and I’m very happy I took the plunge.

They’re beautiful! Natural Easter eggs! :-)
You’re making me want to keep chickens again, too! They’re so much fun!
