Cloning ex-beauty queen a kidnapper? You can’t make up this stuff!

From The Mail (UK), a strange “could it be?’ moment:
‘Bernann McKinney’ had saved tissue from the ear of her beloved ‘Booger’, which was frozen after the dog died, and then used as DNA source material to produce five pitbull pups.
[...] But as the eccentric Miss McKinney beamed joyfully from the world’s television screens on Tuesday, vague bells began to ring. [...] The face was familiar, albeit older and heavier. The surname was the same.
Surely it wasn’t? Could the new owner of the world’s first commercially cloned pups be the same woman who had gone on the run from British justice 30 years ago?
Elsewhere: Prince Chunk, the near-record 44-pound cat, has a new home. I trust he also has a good veterinarian, because putting a cat on a diet is a very tricky and potentially deadly affair. (Christie’s guidelines for feline weight-loss are a must-read on the subject.) … on SmartDogs, more icky-icky tick news. It’s true: The little creeps are everywhere, and there’s not enough soy sauce in the world to do them in. I hate ticks. … Hat tip to Nadine for noting the opening of a new business in Redmond, Wash., that sells freshly made pet food daily, made from sustainably raised meat. Interesting!

Local news just reported that Prince Chunk is being put on a high protein low/no, carb diet per the vet.
The cloning story is funny as all heck.

You really couldn’t make this stuff up - I thought it was a spoof when I first saw this.
Getting the cloned dogs may be the most sane thing this women has done in her adult life. and that’s saying something.

What’s the statute of limitations on hand-cuffing a kidnapped Mormon missionary to the bed?
Does anyone actually believe that her deceased dog saved her from an attack in a Lassie-ish manner? Really?
And are there actually “service dog” organizations lined up to take the spare clones? Somehow I doubt it. It’s the sort of thing that sounds good if a reporter doesn’t question it.
Bet those cloning researchers are ready to eat a pistol. This is the same group whose PI got into such trouble with some … errr … ethical lapses on a human stem cell project a couple years back. Bet they figured the dog cloning would help scrape off the black mark.

Apparently all that therapy did not cure her of her inability to let go.
I feel so sorry for the man she abducted all those years ago, who thought all this was long behind him and now no doubt has media satellite trucks at his front door.

OMG - it gets EVEN WEIRDER. From today’s news her attorney - a fellow from Tennessee named (I kid you not) David Crockett verifies that Joyce and Bernann McKinney are the same person.
She’s in the news - again with a warrant out for her arrest on bizarre theft charges:
