Another star in the heavens: Goodbye, Rookie

Carolyn Scott and Rookie made more people smile than almost anyone I know. The joy they shared in performing was infectious and inspirational. Not a week would go by that someone wouldn’t send me a link to a video of them together, and no matter how many times I watched, I was always happy to watch again.
Hat tip to Yes, Biscuit, Land of PureGold and A Dog’s Life for passing along the very sad news that Rookie went to the bridge yesterday, at age 15. If you never saw Carolyn and Rookie, here’s what you missed:

And now I have to explain why I’m sitting at my desk with tears rolling down my cheeks.
Run free and dance, sweet Rookie!

I loved watching Rookie and Carolyn dance. Their relationship always left me in awe. Rookie watched Carolyn so intently, reading her every move. The obvious joy he had in his dancing. Now that was joy of life.
Carolyn, my prayers go out to you. Thank you for sharing Rookie with us.

After watching Rookie and Carolyn in the the dance routine from Grease many times tonight with my family, we too in the words of Forest Gump know what love is.

Rookie, you touched our heart and made us smile. Carolyn, what a blessing he was to you, your family and those who knew and loved this Golden spirit. Dancing in Heaven now, he will be there to show you the way when it is your time.
Blessings and hugs to you all!

Yet another star in heaven—my cat Brandy who was 15 yrs of age.
Yesterday, 7/18/08, I took her for a check-up and her heart gave out. I was shocked, and still am. I had denied to myself all the obvious clues.
My daughter rushed to the veterinary hospital, helped the attending vets with obtaining the right decision as to Brandy’s future prognosis as they gave her oxygen to keep her alive, and then she finished up all the details. My husband and I had to go home early because we could not cope well.
Many years ago when my daughter was a teenager, years before she was a veterinarian,
my daughter had to go by herself to confirm that the cat that got killed was our cat.
I tend to get hysterical and am useless.
Today, the day after it happened, I came upon a gold star pillow at a yard sale, one of the two yard sales I attended. Brandy was dark yellow. I am taking it as a sign that she is now a star in heaven.
Thank you, Gina, for giving me this opportunity to express my thoughts, for you block out very little but give so many the chance to express our hearts’ thoughts.

Oh no! I could not be more sorry. I know she was much, much loved and in the very best of hands with your respected and admired daughter helping.
Brandy is surely another of those stars in the heaven. I take signs like that, too.
Godspeed, Brandy.
