Small worlds and French Bulldogs

More than a dozen years ago, on one of my handful of trips to cover the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, I dragged my mom to New York City with me. She’d never been, and we had a blast. That year my first book ever, “Dogs For Dummies,“ was out, and it was nominated for some awards.
At the Dog Writers Association of America banquet, always the night before Westminster, we sat with a lovely, funny woman from Canada, whose French Bulldog would take Best of Breed at Westminster the next day. Ours was a lucky table, apparently, since “Dogs For Dummies” was handed awards for best general reference and the top award for the best writing that year on dogs. How cool is that? If you’re going drag your mom across the country and make her sit through a rubber-chicken meal, it’s nice to have something she can be proud of to take back to the overpriced hotel room.
Anyway … the woman we met that night was Carol Gravestock, and she and I have recently reconnected in a virtual way because we’re both bloggers. She’s on a roll (a French roll? Sorry!) lately, with posts on how to ID a reputable breeder and read an online breeder ad. Check out the Frogdog Blog.

I LOVE Frenchies and they are on my short list of dogs I’d like to have one day. I do worry about having one in the South Carolina heat though. Not that our dogs are outdoor dogs but they do go out for exercise and such. I would feel terrible if anything bad happened.
I love Carol’s blog - she’s on my blogroll!

Frogdog Blog is totally on my blogroll, too, and I sent Carol’s most excellent article on heatstroke to my pug-lovin’ sis and her pug- and Frenchie-owning pals. A VERY important read for dog owners, especially for people with flat-faced dogs.

Hey, how did I miss this?
Thanks for the mention - I wondered where the new traffic was coming from!
And tell your mom hi!
