I had bought my last batch of Nutro the days before the recall and have subsequently stopped using any Nutro products.

Diarrhea, blood in stools, vomiting—I had witnessed enough ill symptons so why should I buy more Nutro products and go through that again.

One long period of that sickness was more than sufficient for me—ever!

Really? The guy at the store spoke about it like it had just happened. Sheesh. Thanks for taking the time to clue me in. Maybe what he meant was that the changes were new, not the sale of the company.

Forgot to say how much I enjoyed meeting your dogs too. I can certainly see why you like that breed so much. They all had a very nice vibe. Hope Otter gets back home a-ok. I bet you’ll miss him.

Gina, there could not have been any better entertainment for a room full of pet lovers than delightful you and your beautiful and friendly dogs. You made the crowd laugh with your genuine humor; you made them cry with your heartfelt story about Heather and life’s lessons you learned from her. Not only are you a fantastic journalist, you are unquestionably a most talented creative non-fiction writer as well. Based on the awesome story you shared with us, I know all your Crescent City fans eagerly await your upcoming books. Thanks again, Gina for your visit to us all up here behind The Redwood Curtain! We certainly enjoyed having you here!

By the by, we were just at our local feed store/premium pet food dealer and were told that Mars, Inc. has bought Nutro. They are going to pull some percentage of the protein and turn Nutro Max into a grocery store brand (shades of IAMS), prices are going up 8% across the board, the frequent buyer program is being changed and the 10% discount is history. So,another answer to the question- How stupid do they think we are? I guess they missed the food recall last year.

We have therefore just bought our last Nutro products and will use what we have as we transition our collie and four cats to another privately owned super premium brand of pet food. Suggestions anyone? Merrick is the front-runner at this point since we already buy their canned products. Home-cooked is not on the table, so don’t start, please.

The uncertain Crescent City cooperated marvelously and, while you’ve been worrying about laundry, we’ve spent the week collecting kudos from your delightful visit. A fine time was had by all the assembled pet lovers and we’ve been asked more than once to have you make an annual visit. Perhaps you can slip into town unrecognized? Nah,you’d be recognizecd, but come again anyhow.
