Gratituous kitten-blogging: Meeting Ilario edition

The people I’m getting my kitten from live in Oregon, so yesterday I took the afternoon off from the dog show to visit them and my new family member, Ilario. He’ll be joining us at the end of the month. I’ve written before about my moderate cat allergies, and my brother’s severe ones, and how some Siberian cats seem to be well-tolerated by people with allergies.

Let me put more emphasis on “some” as a warning to people who will rush to kitten-mill Web sites and pet stores with credit card in hand to buy a Siberian cat or any long-haired kitten opportunists/scam artists are fobbing off as “a hypo-allergenic Siberian.”

Some Siberians may be well-tolerated by people with moderate cat allergies. Not all. Some. Got it?

Anyway … I spent two hours with Ilario’s breeders, lovely, kind people who have a home set up perfectly for their indoor cats. Astonishing fact: I never had so much as an itchy eye, much less a runny nose or the beginnings of an asthma attack. Nothing.

OK, but remember: Scam artists. Kitten mills. If you have mild to moderate cat allergies — or someone in your family does — and can’t have and dearly would love and care for a cat, by all means look into the Siberian. But don’t support the dirtbags, OK? You don’t want to get taken, and none of us want to see more kittens and cats in shelters.

Right?

OK, enuffadat. Here’s what little Ilario (a/k/a Larry) looked like yesterday. He’s a little more than six weeks old:

  5. Gorgeous everything—the eyes, the fur, and the expression on Ilario’s face!

Can’t wait to hear about the meeting between Clara and Ilario.

I have a suspicion that Clara will leave the rabbit for the more exciting Ilario. Hope not. Hope Clara and Ilario can include the rabbit in their playtime schedule.

  8. Congrats Gina!
Larry is adorable. I too have a Siberian. My husband and my mother, both allergic to cats, have never had a reaction to him. But beside that plus, and being beautiful, he has the most wonderful personality. He is friendly with everyone he meets and loves the dogs. He travels with us to dog shows. We will also have another Siberian joining our household shortly. It is a wonderful breed but like any other purebred you need to do your homework, find a reputable breeder and expect to wait for a well bred pet.
