Arlene, you should try using the National 411 system, I get directed to Arcata, Yucaipa, Eureka, you name it!

Than when I spell it out, I get snotty comments along the lines of " ma'am, I know how to spell Yreka"

I am so glad for your boy that he found his way to HB and then to your home. When we first came here, the idea of networking to place pets was non-existent. Inland Humane started using PetFinder etc...and now, under new leadership, the AC is really making an effort also to do whatever it takes to get pets re-homed, including transfers , TNR and special pit training classes for dogs and owners. (definitely one of those management changes Nathan Winograd advocates in the face of incompetence)

And, for the first time after a decade of me being ignored, the AC has actually referred a few folks to me for breed rescue info. Yay! Change really is possible

Yeah, he came from near Ukiah. He had been in an abusive and/or seriously neglectful situation and was at the Mendicino Shelter. He was renamed to give him a new start. I think the story is that he was adopted by a trainer in the Ukiah area, but he couldn't adapt (she was married--the husband was the problem). From there he somehow made it to Homeward Bound. It's a beautiful name (but people from other parts of the country always find it confusing and have NO clue how to spell it!)

Good for Homeward Bound! I'm on my third Homeward Bound dog--all wonderful dogs. One of my dogs, Ukiah, was with them many months. He is big and black--and shy (especially around men and children). He was hard to place, but Homeward Bound stuck by him, and I'm VERY glad they did.
