I blog here and have always been outspoken in my contempt for Berman and Co., and warning animal lovers not to let them exploit them.

But PETA is also exploiting animal lovers to line their pocketbooks and kill animals. I don't see a speck of difference between them, morally.

The focus and attack on PETA is a way to deflect focus on the billions of animals killed for food.

PETA is pretty much alone in thinking that killing cattle and poultry for food is worse than killing cats, dogs, rabbits, etc. because PETA thinks that being a loved and cherished pet is literally a fate worse than death. And I'll entertain claims that the animals PETA slaughters were killed because of intractable medical or behavioral problems when they produce the medical and behavioral evaluations for those animals--which as Gina noted they have never done so.

What you say about CCF and the Berman crew is true; however:

The sourcing on PETA's kill stats is from the Commonwealth of Virginia. It's not made up. PETA kills animals who could be adopted out, according to the legal reporting requirements of the Commonwealth. And they keep doing it, year after year after year.

One doesn't have to agree with the goals of the CCF (which I don't) to also think it's time people stopped listening to PETA (which I do).

PETA has NEVER responded to the request to see the medical and behavioral evaluations on the animals they killed.

Hi, A lot of the posters are referring to the Center for Consumer Freedom which created PetaKillsAnimals.com and it is a front group for tobacco, alcohol and food industries created by a PR company called Berman and Co.It has tried to smear Farm Sanctuary, PCRM, the Humane Society, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and other animal rights and social justice groups. So wittingly or unwittingly many in this forum are working with animal exploiting industries trying to divide and conquer the animal protection movement.

Read an expose of the Centre for Consumer Freedom at SourceWatch:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Center_for_Consumer_Freedom

The focus and attack on PETA is a way to deflect focus on the billions of animals killed for food. The Center for Consumer Freedom is constantly attacking people promoting veganism, so I ask the author Gina and other posters to unmask the role of corporate front groups. Thanks.

I know I'm coming into this really late but I wanted to thank you for this article. My image of PETA was fanatics who would shoot people before letting a moth die. I had no clue that they regularly put adoptable pets to sleep.

I really disapprove of the point of the post -the scare tactics. This letter from the attorney is absolutely ridiculous. Shame on PETA for misleading the public about what they stand for. Shame on them for trying to intimidate journalists. Shame on them for taking animals for "adoption" when they have publicly stated they do not have the resources to adopt them out. Shame on them for wasting millions of dollars on . . . what? If they are not adopting pets out, what do they use their donations for?

Anyways, that's my late 2 cents.

Unfortunately, the U.S. seems stuck in the dark ages when it comes to animal control.

I will definitely not be supporting PETA or the Humane Society. I am currently in Germany where there is a strict no-kill policy. Many strays are fixed and then adopted to likely candidates.

I own a Labrador and can only pray that our next base, where ever that may be, will not have this policy for him.
