Live from New York, it’s the Dog and Volvo show!

Volvo's Dan Johnston receives award from Christina Slater of Bark Buckle UpWell actually, it’s not live. But a week ago the New York International Auto Show opened to the media and once again Volvo was there showing off its DogCar prowess by partnering with Bark Buckle Up to promote safe traveling with our dogs.

This is at least the second time that Volvo has taken the inititive to talk about the need for safety cages in dog-friendly vehicles, like the Volvo XC-90 on display in New York. In February, the automaker delivered the same message at the Chicago International Auto Show.

Here, Christina Selter, president of Bark Buckle Up, presents Volvo’s Dan Johnston with a special, bone-shaped award naming Volvo as the Pet Safe Vehicle Choice in America. To the left, we see some dog-friendly barriers set up in a Volvo XC-90.

Now that’s an important award, no bones about it!

  1. We have an XC90 and its a great little back-up dogcar (a Toyota Sienna is our mainstay). As responsible dog owners we never haul the dogs around without the barrier in place - but - we’d like the nice folks at Volvo (and Toyota too!) to consider constructing barriers for the REAR ENDS of their vehicles.

We travel to a lot of shows, seminars, trials and other dog-related events where we can park our vehicle in a safe, shady spot next to where we’re sitting and if we had a good REAR vehicle barrier it would make those times when the dogs would prefer to rest (supervised) in the quiet of the car much safer and simpler.

  2. Just reading Janeen’s comment now, and I agree! What a great accessory…to have a barrier that allows the dogs to stay inside the shaded interior, while leaving the rear door wide open to allow for a breeze, etc.
