Volvo wagon makes canine safety a priority

March 17, 2008

2008 Volvo V70We’ve been writing a lot about Volvo lately.

First, Volvo held a press conference at the Chicago Auto Show in February to promote the importance of safely securing your dogs in a moving vehicle. To do this, Volvo is partnering with Bark BuckleUp to show off the various crates and cages that Volvo offers as accessories for some of its DogCars.

Also, respected journalist and canine-lover Michael Coates offered his take on Volvo’s Chicago press conference.

This week, I got to experience the dog-friendly features of the 2008 Volvo V70 station wagon and I must say that I’m impressed. Not only is the V70 a joy to drive, smooth and quiet, with great power on the freeway and awesome traction on curvy mountain roads; but it’s also ahead of the game when it comes to canine safety.

While there is much to like overall about the V70, from a DogCar perspective the most impressive features are the aluminum rails embedded into the rear cargo floor and the side walls of the cargo area. These built-in features make it easy for safety conscious dog lovers to properly secure crates and cages without having to search for that answer to the where-do-I-hook-this-thing? type of question.

So, while the lack of maximum cargo space may force big dog owners to look toward the larger, XC70 or XC90 models, the V70 definitely takes some positive puppy steps toward satisfying the safety and convenience needs of the dog-loving public.

Great work, Volvo!
