Waiting, watching and along for the ride

I just came across an article about a cute new book produced by Marcie Jan Bronstein, a photographer in Belfast, Maine. The book, called “I’ll wait in the car / Dogs along for the ride” chronicles years of photographs that Bronstein took of dogs waiting in cars while their owners are in shopping.
This collection of photographs, spanning more than a decade of observing and documenting, is comprised of original hand-colored images celebrating dogs in cars — their patience, their style and their watchful eye.
It’s refreshing to see a book like this point out just a few of the positive aspects of bringing our beloved pups along while we go about our daily routines. Especially in contrast to the horror stories that often show up in the news about dogs suffering from heat stroke (or frostbite) while waiting in a vehicle.
The love and respect Bronstein feels for her subjects is palpable throughout the collection, and she is relieved to mention that in the decade these photographs were taken she never encountered a dog waiting in an overheated (or under-heated) car.
