Global. Pet. Expo. All that, and a panic attack

Unlike Kim Campbell Thornton, who so entertainingly blogged the Westminster Kennel Club dog show for us this week, I don’t like to travel. Kim and her husband, Jerry, would be going somewhere all the time were it not for such trivial matters as paying for trips and missing the pets too much. Kim and Jerry have been everywhere, at least twice.
Me, I’m famous for hyperventilating before every trip. Travel is like writing for me: I enjoy having done it. Actually doing it stresses me out. Of course, my work requires I travel a lot. Life is like that. I write a lot, too.
Short trip this time, though: I’m heading downstate along with Pet Connection Director of Photography Morgan Ong to San Diego, to meet up with our Dr. Marty Becker and — yes! — Kim Campbell Thornton, that jet-setter girl, at Global Pet Expo. Christie’s sitting out this trip because: A) Somebody has to watch the blog; and B) She’s going to a veterinary conference next week. (And also because she put lobster on my credit card bill at GPE two years ago. Sweetie, no one really means “order anything, I’m treating” when they say, “order anything, I’m treating.”)
I’m planning to blog from Global Pet Expo, probably on Friday. With pictures.
I’ve checked in and printed out the boarding passes. My house-sitter has assured me three times that she’ll be here in the morning. I know what I’m taking (besides a glass of red wine, in about an hour) and it’s almost all packed. OK, OK … off we go.
I’m guessing the trend in pet retail is going to be green this year. Why not? Everything else is green now. We’ll see!

Boy, do you have me and Jerry pegged. Life would be perfect if we had a private jet so the dogs could go with us. They love to travel too and appear to enjoy their stays in hotels.

I hate to travel, too, but I make exceptions for Westminster.
Actually, I met Gina there (tho I’m sure she doesn’t remember), at the DWAA banquet — I think she was nominated for a book. I was there because the breed mag I wrote for was nominated. My Frenchie boy took breed that year.. that made the trip worthwhile :)

I sure do remember. My mom was with me on that trip. And my “Dogs For Dummies” was named the best writing on dogs that year — sort of a pet-writer’s Best In Show!

OH PUHLEEZ. You loved it. And you’re so going to wish I was there to amuse you.
