Emily Litella writes to Pet Connection

Back from a morning of dog-training in the rain. The following e-mail made me laugh out loud. It’s in response to a question and answer about dental care for dogs in our syndicated newspaper Pet Connection page:
Cockapoos with teeth? Do birds have teeth? Seems strange that Dr. Marty Becker and Gina Spadafori didn’t comment on this. Instead of ‘dental health’ they should have said ‘oral health’. This is a veterinarian and an award-winning journalist?
I believe the e-mailer is confusing a cockapoo (a dog who’s a cocker-poodle mix, top) with a cockatoo (any of a number of species of large, white parrots, bottom). Yes, Dr. Becker and I aware that birds don’t have teeth. (Heck, with world-renowned avian specialist Dr. Brian Speer I co-authored “Bird For Dummies.” Safe to say I picked up a few things along the way, not to mention having a parrot myself.)
But hey!, thanks for writing!

Okay - you owe me a new monitor (she chokes out as she wipes the tears from her eyes and the spewed coffee from the screen!)

I feel bad for all those people trying to get their cockapoos to eat Lafeber’s, or trying to convince the groomer to make an appointment for their cockatoo.

Hilarious!! But it was Emily Litella, not Rosanne Rosanadana.
