I am in awe of my washing machine

January 26, 2008

Sugar says, The new washer-dryer arrived last night, and I have to say no one has ever had more fun doing laundry than I am having this morning.

I’m assuming the thrill will wane by the end of the weekend.

But yes … the washer does dog beds. Retriever-sized dog beds. The 20-year-old Kenmore it replaced (with a center agitator) couldn’t accommodate large, bulky items. This front-loader not only takes such items, but it cleans them faster and with less water and electricity.

Yowser.

In other news … I’m puppy-sitting. Sugar, a retriever a month younger than my Otter (Otter’s four months old), is here until tomorrow night. The two puppies are having a blast … and Clara the cat is high on her cat tree, looking down in disgust. (Here’s a little slideshow of the two puppies playing.)

Christie’s in Southern California doing her pop-culture journo-thing for another Web site. And me? I’ll be chasing puppies and doing laundry. Yes, I know: You’re jealous!

And speaking of appliances … Dyson is sending me their new hand-vac to test, and later, their ultralight. Roomba soon, I promise.

Around and around

… Thanks, Luisa, for reminding me of the meet-the-dogs stuff over on Bad Rap. The slide show on the former Vick dogs is amazing. Look at the sweet faces on those dogs. … The Terrierman has a nice bit of history on Stubby, the Georgetown University mascot. OK, but what’s a Hoya? … and Pet Connection BFF Dr. Patty Khuly vents on pet-owners who expect the vet to work miracles for nothing. …Kim Campbell Thornton, who blogs here now and then, has a good piece on MSNBC.com on what a puppy-buyer should look for in a breeder. Beware of breeder, indeed.

  1. Gina- I heart the hand held dyson animal they sent me. It is awesome for pet hair on clothes and the couch. I mean awesome. Even passed muster with middle schooler. mucho beter than tape. We had a few bugs flying around th house that came ith the guinea pig feed, and my son caught them with the thing. I swear! I heart it. Draw back..it only holds a charge for 6 mintues. but I have to say that six minutes is pretty long. It doesn’t feel like a vacuum. It feels like a power tool.Very cool. very very cool.

  2. On the Bad Rap blog under the “Johnny Justice” piece, there’s a statement,

“…and to Rose - who taught us how to do it better the next time.”

Anyone know what is meant by this?

  3. My old Oreck hand held has just croaked. As I love my regular Dyson, the hand-held is a likely suspect for the new hand held round these parts.

Now to get the dogs outside for a while until the next band of rain rolls in…

  4. Now I would be really interested in what the Roomba can actually do! I was just looking at an ad for one from a local hardware store but since it seems to have acquired fad status I’ve been associating it with things like the Pocket Fisherman and the Thighmaster.

Our collection of kitties and little pal Scout leave a constant snow storm of their coat material all over everything along with much dust which I suppose is part dander. Other than vaccuming constantly I always wondered if this supposedly robotic thing was anything more than a gimmick.

Would much appreciate an objective appraisal before I shell out the $99 and face the ridicule of my wife… (who wont buy a dish washer either).

  5. I love my front-loader. It’s so easy to do extra-large loads and dog beds. Now, if I could just find the perfect hand vac.
