An interview in Sunday’s Times Online (out of the UK) with movie superstar Charlize Theron (Monster, In The Valley of Elah, Mighty Joe Young, The Devil’s Advocate) reveals several interesting tidbits.
Perhaps the most revealing item is that at the age of 15, she watched her mother shoot and kill her abusive, drunken father in their South African home. That event prompted Theron to leave the country and set out on her own path toward eventual fame and fortune.
But what interests DogCars.com about the interview is that Theron is nuts about dogs. At one time, she and her boyfriend, Irish actor Stuart Townsend, had six dogs, including a great dane.
“I can’t ever imagine opening my front door at home and not having dogs,” she says. “It brings a relaxed atmosphere.”
As an environmentally conscious celebrity, Theron is a dedicated hybrid owner. For solo driving, Theron owns a Toyota Prius hybrid sedan. But for driving with her dogs, she has a Lexus RX400h four-wheel-drive hybrid SUV. The vehicle gives her good gas (EPA estimate average of 27 mpg (city) and 24 mpg (highway), provides plenty of cargo space and it handles off-road treks with ease.
