An ultimate upgrade for the Nissan Altima
By Keith Turner
January 13, 2008
The gentleman rushed up to stop me as I was pulling out of the health club parking lot.
He was smiling and pointing at the side of my car. Thinking there was something wrong, I rolled my window down to see what he wanted.
“I love that car,” said the smiling, 60-something-year-old man. “I’ve been looking for it every since I saw it mentioned in a magazine. It’s beautiful!”
The vehicle he was smitten with was the 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe.
“An Altima?” you ask. Isn’t that the boring little sister sedan to the luxurious Maxima? Talk about invisible, after the introduction of Nissan’s 350Z a few years back, the Altima seemed to slip into the background of blandness.
Well, I’m happy to report that the Altima has grown out of its shell and done so with style and pizazz.
The bright red, 2-door Altima coupe I was testing is not a DogCar, but since we’ve decided when I review non-DogCars for other publications and Web sites, I’m going mention them. Because after all, some people with dogs may have two cars!
As I pulled out of the parking lot, the guy stood still, watching as I quickly accelerated the Altima into the roadway. I could almost hear him saying to himself “Cool. I want one.”
