Hear! Hear! The FDA is on the job!

December 29, 2007

Safe to say that the pet-food recall didn’t exactly increase my confidence in the ability of our tax-supported entities to warn us or protect us, which wasn’t exactly at a high point anyway after Hurricane Katrina. But I now I gotta take that all back. This morning’s FDA warning:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising consumers not to buy or use Super Shangai, Strong Testis, Shangai Ultra, Shangai Ultra X, Lady Shangai, and Shangai Regular, also marketed as Shangai Chaojimengnan, products because they contain undeclared active ingredients of FDA-approved prescription drugs for erectile dysfunction.

Well, OK! But you know, anyone who buys a product called “Strong Testis” may well be pre-qualified for a Darwin Award anyway.

  1. Darn! I almost sent you that link, and then I thought “Nah . . . . she’d never use it . . . . . .”

    Funny, though, wasn’t it?

  2. Oh, so that explains why he’s so frisky lately! And I thought it was just a nutritional supplement in the medicine cabinet. [Tongue in cheek.]

You know, I really, really, really hate any so-called “nutritional supplement” unless specifically recommended by an MD.

I had surgery two months ago and you wouldn’t believe the list the of so-called “supplements” the surgeon gave me a month before surgery. He was VERY clear that if I took just one thing on that list from that point forward that he would not operate. Yes, they’re finding more and more problems with this “supplement” c*** and won’t tolerate the liability.

  3. I’ve gotten to the point where I use only all natural vegetable supplements my naturopath recommends or homeopathic remedies distributed from my doctor.

  4. The FDA is always on the job defending the pharmaceutical companies.

  5. Dennis: Yes, they are. But the products in question are packaged and distributed by Shangai Distributor, Inc. of Coamo, Puerto Rico. I’d be willing to be the source is not a pharmaceutical company [in China].
