Happy traveling with a harnessed terrier

A holiday visit to Michigan brought stories about how my brother’s family of five people routinely travels long distances with Sully, their Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
The key to safe and calm traveling, explained my sister-in-law Sandy, was in finding the perfect travel harness for Sully.
“We tried some different dog crates, but they were too big for our 2001 Pontiac Montana minivan,” she recalls. “That left no room for luggage. Then we tried out several harnesses, but each one had its drawbacks, so they also got returned.”
Finally, she found one that worked best for Sully and his family. The medium-sized Four Paws dog harness was the perfect match for this pesky pup who loved to travel, but had a hard time staying in one place during long rides.
“This harness is perfect for our needs,” Sandy explained as she easily looped the nylon belt over Sully’s head and clicked the buckle together. “The heavy fleece chest pad is comfortable and doesn’t seem to get him overheated in the summer either.”
The car’s seatbelt slips through a loop in the harness, and then clicks into place as usual. Sully can sit up or lay down with ease, but he can’t roam all over the car disrupting other passengers or causing visibility issues for the driver.
And when the trip is over, the harness is easily unhooked with one hand, leaving the other free for carrying cargo or holding a leash.
Sully is now welcome on all the family’s long-distance trips, traveling everywhere as a safe, secure and happy dog. Crates or harnesses, it’s all good as long as the dog’s secured, we say!
