Keep track of your car . . . or your dog?

Here’s a holiday gift item that may make responsible dog owners chuckle. The Zoombak Pet and Auto Locator (Zoom-Back, get it?) is a small, portable Global Positioning System (GPS) gadget that you can attach to your vehicle or your pet for the purpose of tracking them down if they stray off or are stolen.
Costing about $200, this little box can be turned on and discreetly placed somewhere on a car. If the car is stolen, you then have a way to track it down day or night. Then, as the story says, you can “bust the thief in the act.”
Oh boy, that’s just what I want to do: Chase down a thief and his crew and beat them up so I can get my car back.
And get this: The Zoombak can also be put on your dog’s collar so if he gets out and runs away, you can find him. We have not tested this device (and have no intention of doing so, since we’d rather not misplace our dogs), but what I’m wondering is, wouldn’t it be easier — and a tad less expensive — just to keep an eye on your dog in the first place?
What’s next here? You guessed it: The Zoombak Car & Family Locator. Discreetly attach it to your teen or your spouse and you will be able to know exactly when and where they are at all times. If they stray outside of your predetermined “Safety Zone” you can rush out and lasso them back into your custody.
That’s clearly a recipe for a happy family holiday.
