Cardboard kitty: Yeah, that’s so funny … not!

October 11, 2007

Clara gets highOver on DogCars.com, Keith writes about the latest in teenage pranks: Putting a cardboard cat (with reflective eyes) in the middle of the dark road. Watch people swerve into head-on traffic or speed up to hit a cat! Wow!

We are so not laughing.

And speaking of cats and switching to real ones: Miss Clara (pictured) has topped 11 pounds without an ounce of fat on her at a tick over nine months of age. It ain’t all fur, that’s for sure.

She’s one big cat, with an attitude to match. Clara rules the world, and looks down on us all from ever-higher vantage points.

Poor stupid doggies. Look at them, down there. I pity them.

  1. Gina - just gotta say “Told you so!” Hummm. Maybe her name should be Queen Clara?

  2. The Empress Clara, more like.

  3. Does Clara retrieve?

She looks very Maine Coon to me and Lindsey, who is only 1/4 Maine Coon, loves to retrieve and drag his toys (especially the fish pole) all over the house.

Since Clara is living with actual retrievers, if she had the instinct, I figured she’s probably picked it up by now.

Here at my house, we have the 1/4 Maine Coon retrieving and the Border Collie/Shiba Inu absolutely refusing.

(When Pepper was a puppy, our neighbor with a Smooth-Coated Collie tried to convince Pepper that retrieving was fun. Pepper was so horrified by the idea [and that Murphy was a willing participant] that she took all of Murphy’s balls that she could fit her jaws around and buried them under his porch. Poor Murphy was only left with his large balls to play with. One of these days the new neighbors are going to dig up under their porch and wonder why the heck all these small balls are buried under the porch!)

Anyway, I’m sure it’s “The Empress Clara” I kept a roll of old carpeting in the corner of my living room for years because Scherazade loved to sit on the top of it.

  4. Clara is a cutie! That’s for sure!
I am concerned about both kids who think it’s “fun” to put the cardboard cat in the road AND those who speed up to hit it. This is exactly the kind of behavior that leads to some of the horrendous animal torture and abuse that we read about way too often. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? WHERE ARE THE POLICE? That is just plain sick!

  5. The divine Ms. Clara. She is the true essence of all things superior.

Where do these kids come up with these stupid ideas? In my teenaged years we never thought of doing morbid things such as this. LIke catmom5 asked, “WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? WHERE ARE THE POLICE?”

  7. What a furball ! Personality gushes from that face!!! Clara’s eyes remind me of my departed friend Maid Marian D’Puss, taken before her time in February ‘07 (with thousands of other pets). Blessings can come in any form; Charish her…
