Cat-ching up: This and that

Good stuff elsewhere:
Over on Dolittler, Dr. Khuly tells the tale of an adult cat nearly bled to death by fleas. Which reminds me of one of my occasionally all-nighters at an emergency vet clinic — for a story, thankfully, not one of my own pets:
A woman brought in a weak and nearly limp kitten. Like the cat in Dr. Khuly’s story, the kitten’s gums were so pale they were almost white. Fleas were jumping over each other, trying to find any available real estate on the poor little kitten’s body. Ugh, it was awful. And the ending wasn’t the good one Dr. K told: The kitten died not long after the veterinarian started trying to save her. Such a needless death.
Which reminds me: Yesterday was the first of the month. Time to get the flea meds on everyone.
On Lassie Get Help, Luisa looks at breed-specific idiocy on the L.A. city council, some members of which believe all pit bulls are monsters who cannot be reformed. Between the pet-food recall, mandatory spay-neuter and more, I’m starting to believe many politicians are monsters who cannot be reformed. Love the opening quote by Susan Conant, whose Holly Winter mysteries are mandatory reading for all dog-lovers (The fictional Holly Winter is a crime-solving dog expert.)
Lighter stuff:
I love reading Kathy Flake’s blog, What Do I Know? She’s an American living in England, and she and her dog wander everywhere. On Fridays, she finds friendly cows and bribes them with apples into getting their pictures taken. Friendly English cows in the lovely English countryside … it’s all part of her nefarious plot to turn us all into vegans — a goal she advances by creating the most fantastic vegan meals and posting mouth-watering pictures of them. Mmmmm. Not fair, Kathy.
And then, there’s this: I give up. I initially didn’t like the crazy twisted IM-type language of the cat-picture-blogging LOLCATS craze, typified by the I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER site. See, I figured if a cat could talk, she’d use correct English. Mine does. But I admit it now, I’m addicted to the pictures. They make me LOL. I. Give. Up. You’ll find hundreds, maybe thousands more like the one above at the site.
Finally: More Chinese-manufactured children’s toys recalled, this time by Fisher-Price, for lead paint. Here’s my question: Who on earth is crazy enough at this point to give child or pet any toy made in China? Not me, that’s for sure.
I’m off to San Diego for a couple of days. May blog a bit, may not. Christie has pneumonia, poor girl, but she promises to entertain and inform you all while I’m gone.

This is one of My “duh” moments. I haven’t bought any toys for the grandkids in a long time. but i always loved Fisher Price. I had no idea they were made in china. I haven’t looked lately at toys, but i will now. And didn’t it say- a little too much lead? No amount of lead is acceptable to Me. None. If I see anything made in China, i don’t buy it. I just didn’t think of Fisher Price and Mattel. I hope they take a beating this year.I’m sure they will.

I think that our pets, that died an untimely death, because of poisons from china, are our heroes. god bless them, we are finally seeing what
china has done to our pets and us. they made light of the animals that suffered and died in vain, now their children are dying from chinese products that are contaminated.

Moth ball smelling toy?
I bought a Cats Claws cat teaser toy (Starburst) at PetCo in North Dakota. My cat loves these and I thought I would get him a toy since my family was on a shopping trip from Canada. But when we got home and I opened the bag, it smelled very stongly like moth balls.
I had kept the wands in the plastic bag from the store and put it in the trunk of the car. After about 8 hours on an 85 degree day, it seemed like something was reacting and was giving off fumes.
I had 3 of them and all 3 smelled very stongly by the feather/mylar end of the toy. I didn’t give them to my cat and put them in the basement. After 1 week, they still smell like mothballs.
Anyone else hear of this?
Did the glue or the dye on the feather have a chemical reaction? They were made in Las Vegas so that’s why I bought them. No China products for me.

The HSUS lost a lot of money when they did not not use their media pull to get the news about the symptoms of the poisoning out there on TV, because I rewrote my will and have convinced others to do the same.
Several organizations that CLAIM to care about pets betrayed their true agendas when they took a lay down instead of doing the right thing and I am going to make sure it costs them.
Not a dime, not now, not ever.
ONE question, where were YOU when the pets were dying?
Did any of you EVER see a public service announcement from the HSUS telling people the symptoms of the poisoning?
Me neither.

Cat covers with acceptance or rejection letters. Maybe it’s only funny if you like cats and romance novels…
