This “one-upsmanship” thing amongst celebrities is almost as sick as the act of promoting puppy mills by purchasing dogs from a pet shop, swanky or not.

Love isn’t any bigger or better when bought from a pet shop.

years ago I received a call from the representative of “some one you’ve definetly heard of”. The man who called me would not disclose his employers name. They wanted a puppy. I said I would certainly refer them to a reputable source, but I wanted to know who I was referring! NO, I could not have the info. But they were a bi-coastal family. I said that I was not keen on dogs being left while people were never home or too busy and that anyone I refereede them to would certainly like to know where th dog would be in all this jetsetting, who would care for it etc..
And of course i told him about puppy contracts, limited registration, Spay neuter agreements. He was HIGHLY OFFENDED that I or anyone I sent him to would place restrictions or terms on a puppy HIS client was buying. End of conversation.

I also love the “adopted” comment. What a way to try to make the purchase of a pet store puppy for several grand sound homey and innocuous. Blech.

Also, what kind of screening procedure is employed by “Pets of Bel Air”?

Something like this:

Whatever happened to the last Chihuahua?

1) S/he got old?

2) S/he pooped in the house because no one trained him/her not to?

3) S/he didn’t match the new carpeting?

4) S/he was no longer the “Dog duJour”?

5) Any of another 50,000 or so completely “essential” reasons a celebrity tires of a dog purchased as a fashion accessory or a toy rather than as a living being with needs, feelings, and a lifespan into the teens.

I just hate these reports . . . . . . . .
