Mandatory spay-neuter for idiot celebrities who keep impulse-buying pet-store puppies. According to People:

Paris Hilton already has a huge family of pets – but she added one more to the brood with a new Chihuahua on Wednesday.

The heiress adopted the young, male pooch from Pets of Bel Air in Los Angeles just after 1 p.m.

“She loved the puppy, she was all smiles and carried him out of the store in her arms,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. A store employee said Hilton was “so sweet.”

The store is the same one where Britney Spears bought a $3,000 Yorkie puppy less than two weeks ago.

And speaking of celeb purchases: Earlier on Wednesday, rocker Fred Durst and his son came into the store and purchased a Chihuahua as well.

Hilton, who has said she really missed her pets while in jail, also recently bought a new Yorkie named Cinderella, and has another Chihuahua named Tinkerbell, among other pets. (In 2005, she was forced to give up her kinkajou, Baby Luv, because it was considered an exotic species and was illegal to own.)

I guess because the pet store  has “Bel Air” in the name, that makes it cool. Hey … whatever happened to the last Chihuahua? Hmmm?

  1. Whatever happened to the last Chihuahua?

    1) S/he got old?

    2) S/he pooped in the house because no one trained him/her not to?

    3) S/he didn’t match the new carpeting?

    4) S/he was no longer the “Dog duJour”?

    5) Any of another 50,000 or so completely “essential” reasons a celebrity tires of a dog purchased as a fashion accessory or a toy rather than as a living being with needs, feelings, and a lifespan into the teens.

    I just hate these reports . . . . . . . .

  2. Also, what kind of screening procedure is employed by “Pets of Bel Air”?

    Something like this:

“Is your card under its credit limit? Okay! Here’s your new puppy!”

  3. Oh my.

  4. Other pat - yup - that’s all any pet store will ask of you - that your credit card go through.

  5. years ago I received a call from the representative of “some one you’ve definetly heard of”. The man who called me would not disclose his employers name. They wanted a puppy. I said I would certainly refer them to a reputable source, but I wanted to know who I was referring! NO, I could not have the info. But they were a bi-coastal family. I said that I was not keen on dogs being left while people were never home or too busy and that anyone I refereede them to would certainly like to know where th dog would be in all this jetsetting, who would care for it etc..
And of course i told him about puppy contracts, limited registration, Spay neuter agreements. He was HIGHLY OFFENDED that I or anyone I sent him to would place restrictions or terms on a puppy HIS client was buying. End of conversation.

I also love the “adopted” comment. What a way to try to make the purchase of a pet store puppy for several grand sound homey and innocuous. Blech.

  6. wonder how long before Tinkerbell or Cinderella gets knocked up by unnamed as of yet (Prince Charming perhaps?) male pooch?

Didn’t one of her Chi’s get too big and booted off to Mommy Hilton’s?

  7. This “one-upsmanship” thing amongst celebrities is almost as sick as the act of promoting puppy mills by purchasing dogs from a pet shop, swanky or not.

Love isn’t any bigger or better when bought from a pet shop.

  8. At a bar, if you’ve had too much to drink, they generally cut you off.

All pet shops should agree, CUT PARIS OFF.
