When is a pit bull no longer a pit bull? When he’s a hero, of course.
Over at PetHobbyist.com, I charted the media evolution of a heroic pit bull who saved a little girl from a rapist in New York City from “pit bull mix” to generic dog as the story moved from print to the airwaves:
Then the TV stations got it… the TV stations that are usually all too ready to drag out the pit bull stock footage every time there’s a bite story, even if the dog in question is a Cocker Spaniel. And suddenly that pit bull was just “a dog.”

I have many pit pals. This story is a refreshing change from all the ones that cross my desk about attacks reported in the news.
