On DogCars.com: Honda’s littlest is Fit and fantastic
By Gina Spadafori

Two days after the Honda Fit was delivered — just days before the Memorial Day weekend — gas prices hit an all-time high. That fact alone drew more than a few interested looks and a handful of comments every time I got out of the little car that could save you money.
Of course, everyone wasn’t quite so interested in the gas mileage. My neighbor took one look at the Fit and said, “Is that a car or a skateboard?” Since she sees everything I test drive, she was perhaps overly struck by the contrast between the Fit and the previous week’s test vehicle, the monstrous GMC Sierra 2500 Heavy Duty Crew Cab pickup. (The Honda Fit would almost fit in the truck bed of the Sierra. I measured!)
Laugh all you want: The Fit is a fantastic little car, loaded with options at a great price, and not at all bad as a DogCar. Check it out on DogCars.com

Cute car. How many big dogs can fit in the FIT? I judge all cars by - if I needed to escape fire flood or tornado - where would they all sit, birds too.
Dobies and Coooohounds squeezed together - where’s the muzzles.

In a pinch, I could get everyone in — four dogs, a rabbit, a cat and a parrot. Crates for all? Nah.
I see the FiT as a good second car if you have a lot of critters. It’s great to drive in the city — zippy, economical and easy to park.

I tried really hard to squeeze a soft crate for my Scottish Deerhound into a Fit. It didn’t work but I still would love to have one when I finally get a new car.

A question: Is the Fit all that different from a 1985 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Ya know what … now that I think about it … it’s kind of similar.
But with airbags, electric windows and a better sound system. :)

Have you done a test drive of a Toyota Matrix yet? (Or the Pontiac Vibe - I believe they’re virtually identical, although it would be interesting to know in what ways they might differ).

I’m so thrilled to see the FIT on petconnection this morning! I’ve owned one since October and can fit two labs in the back, three kids in the back seats and my husband and I in the front. If I were ever in a pinch I could move the back seats down and easily fit all three dogs (and possibly one more medium size dog) in the car as well as my two kitties in their soft sided carrier. The easy to move seat options, roomy cargo area, large back seat and gas mileage won out over the other small cars I checked out.

Well, if you fold down the back seats, there’s more than enough room for all those animals - with their crates. The Fit offers more space than much bigger cars. In this special case, size really doesn’t matter.

Yes, the Fit is roomy for its size. But unless you’re David Copperfield, you aren’t getting crates for three retrievers and a Sheltie in it.
All the pets? Sure, but not the crates.
