Seems to be the night for kitten food recalls.

After Lick Your Chops pulled its Kitten & Cat Dry Food earlier today, itchmo reported there was a new recall listed on the website for Evolve Pet Foods:

NOTICE To All Concerned Pet Owners:

In the on-going FDA investigation of contaminated rice protein concentrate, the FDA has attempted to link other brands that might have possibly been affected due to potential cross contamination of ingredients. Evolve Kitten Food made on March 12, 2007 has now been included in this group.

As of today, 99.4% of the 27,560 lbs. of product made on March 12, 2007 (Best Used By Sep 13 08) has been accounted for and removed from sale. Currently there is 168 lbs. that has not been accounted for. The above 168 lbs. is a total of 9 units in 3# and 7# sizes. Based on the date of manufacture, retail information, consumer contact and expected daily consumption, we strongly believe ALL remaining products from this date have been safely consumed with no adverse effects.

The Evolve formulae do NOT contain any wheat gluten or rice protein concentrate, and the FDA tests confirmed that no melamine was present.

As a valuable Evolve customer, we want you to be aware of this situation despite the fact no melamine have been found by independent testing. This action is a precautionary measure only, as there is no evidence to suggest these products in any way pose a health hazard.

This action effects the March 12, 2007 manufacture date and product only. No other Evolve products have been or will be involved. Feel free to contact us at nationalsales@triumphpet.com with any questions or concerns.

Although the announcement is not dated, itchmo speculates it’s been there as long as a week. The archived page from April 26 does not include the recall announcement, and that’s the most recent archived page available.

The wording of their announcement is very similar to that in Lick Your Chops’ media release from earlier today (Thursday), and may have been part of that same expanded recall related to foods manufactured by Chenango Valley Pet Foods referenced in an article in Thursday’s New York Times.

  1. No melamine found in Evolve & it is recalled.

FDA finds melamine and releases poultry/hogs for human consumption.

There is no method to this madness.

  2. Does anyone know what other foods Chenango Valley manufactures? I found Blue Buffalo, Life’s Abundance and Foster& Smith. Is there a link to see other brands?

Patty, I just started looking and noticed Chenango Valley also makes Back to Basics (according to the petfoodlist). I can’t find a web site for them but it might be worth a phone call to see if they’ll tell you over the phone?

    Just in case:

    Chenango Valley Pet Foods Inc.
    8 W State St.,
    Sherburne NY 13460
    (607)674-2121

  5. I just listed on another post that the ones I have listed for Chenango Valley are:

    Back to Basics
    Dr. Foster & Smith
    Lick your Chops
    SmartPak

I guess we can assume that Evolve is another.
