HSUS gives 25 cities ‘humane’ rankings

San Francisco was tops. No surprise, since Christie lives there and that would surely give the place bonus points. My hometown was ignored, but that’s not unusual: Sacramento only gets attention when The Guvernator is in town.
Chicago was last among the 25 ranked cities.
The HSUS used 12 categories to judge the cities, on everything from fur-wearing to pet stores.
Update: from the media release, expanding on the categories of judging:
The first-ever Humane Index is comprised of a dozen factors selected to provide a basis for comparing the relative humaneness of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas. The Index includes topics related to pets, farm animals, wildlife, animals in entertainment and advocacy for animals and demonstrates that Americans extend their compassion beyond the millions of pets who share our homes.
West Coast cities generally performed better than other areas of the country. In addition to San Francisco and Seattle, Portland ranks third fourth and San Diego fifth. Los Angeles ranks sixth. On the East Coast, Washington, Boston and Baltimore ranked in the top ten metro areas.

Fur wearing to pet stores? Geez, how about breed bans, manadory spay/neuter at 4 months, required yearly rabies shots, allowing dogs to be tied out 24/7. More like politically correct rankings.

It’s the HSUS - what did you expect? (After all, they’re pretty much “married” to PETa).
