Joy - I was only having a little light hearted fun with Pat's comment because I see her on this board all the time and I like her. I added the "winky smiley face" to make it clear to anyone who might not know me that I was only joking. She seemed to take it in the manner I intended and posted a comment to kid me back. I don't see any rudeness anywhere but if it made you feel offended in some way, please know that was not my intention and I'm sorry.

I too would like to see the source of those stats---as I have/had 2 of those 3/10,000 in my own in a very small town in a very small state! Melamine tested positive in the food and acute renal failure in the vet records....and no "courtesy" reimbursement for my vet bills....

Elijah said:

"However, 99% of these illnesses have no relation to contaminated food. Pets get sick and this is an easy way out to blame someone due to the timing of recalls. Only 3 in 10,000 pets have been diagnosed with renal failure due to melamine contamination. The pet food industry is paying out many claims that are in no relation to the food - as a courtesy."

Elijah, from where are you gathering these "statistics"? The FDA reported 10,000 sick/dead pets (and that's just the FDA's numbers)...but even if it were "only" 10,000, where did you learn that only 3 of those were related to the tainted pet food?

Are you honestly convinced the pet food industry is paying out 24 million in claims as a "courtesy"? That's a lot of money for simple courteousness.

I have an eight moonth old beagle and she has been eating Purina puppy chow. I have heard from a sibling that Purina puppy chow makes dogs lose their fur. I would like t know if that is true. Thanks
